Its weird being a toy collector and knowing minimalist. The two uses of space are so apposed.
I have a friend that is probably a minimalist and sometimes she kind of goes off the rails. Like I gave the kids socks, shirts and each a monster high doll. She's and the children have been really greatful about it, sending me pictures of the kids unrapping the gifts and a little hand written note from the kids about what they like about the dolls.
Today however, she made the off handed comment to not send clothes next year as they had to throw away some clothes to make room. And to not give them an ornament next year as they had to throw away some to make room.
Guys, there home looks like a magazine catalog page. Or like something from a cooking show. They dont own anything.
There are a dozen other examples of obsessive behavior like vacuuming every day. Folding clothes two or three times. Alphabetizing all closets. etc.
I really can't imagine living like that. At the very least I'd donated some clothes if my kids had too many. Previous: >>11269567

i make a good income (130k a year), but i'm pretty cheap, like i won't spend $25 on a steam game because it's too much

Rate this gun I made with dollar store stick-together toy pieces. It was not easy. I tried a few different ways before I made this one (I originally wanted to make a rifle). I think it turned out okay. The pieces get loose pretty easily and just trying to find the perfect length of pieces is impossible as you may notice. Any scale, any series. As we approach the new year, first off, I want to say to all of you in the /toy/ community: I wish you all a happy new year!
Second, as we've seen in the past, the future of Star Trek toys and action figures is uncertain and in peril. We have no idea if the IP will be profitable for toys like it was in the '90s.
Though we have the new Nacelle figures, I feel the character choices are unwise and odd. Playmates also showed little care with the license and made a poor attempt at rebooting it.
Do we have any hope for Star Trek toys in 2025 and 2026, with the 60th anniversary and a potential new Star Trek theatrical movie in 2026? We do know that LEGO is working on a Star Trek: The Next Generation set, thanks to leakers, which will be interesting to see. LEGO, for sure, will likely do a good job with it.
Hopes? Speculations? How would you reboot Star Trek for a retail toy line? Is there a future for Star Trek, or is it a dead IP? Will Skydance save it?

Say you were in charge of a floundering value-focused toy line that had a $25 price but had many high-end alternatives. The line was not doing well, though the quality had improved somewhat since its beginning. You improved articulation compared to the poor early figures and threw in an OK amount of accessories (for the price point that is). However, it was still selling poorly enough that for the most recent wave, Amazon had to drop preorders from $25 to ~$21.50 to try to entice buyers.
First: what would you have done to try to save the line?
Now here's what they actually did:
-Increase the price to $35 so its no longer value-focused but not high-end either
-put up preorders in January 2025 for a 3 figure wave to release in 2026
-use much improved paint on one figure, slightly better paint on another, and the same style of paint as the old figures on the third
-increase the size of the figures between .2 and .4 inches
-make 3 pairs of hands standard instead of the previous 2 pairs of hands and add on average 1 extra other accessory
-say you're improving the articulation in marketing material
Second: knowing this, do you think this line recovers or nose dives even harder? Do anyone else collects toy from Kinder, this edition specifically? They have bright colours which makes them very appealing to me and they are kinda cute as well. Had a little fun today with my new one outside. Golobulous What is it about modern LEGO that rubs me the wrong way? It's not just how 99% of everything is license-themed or pandering to AFOLs (although these are part of the problem). It also feels like they're giving you less while disguising it as more. The way that newer builds look and feel cheap and bare-bones while also bloating the piece count. Getting rid of baseplates and other single-mold specialty pieces to save money.
Is anyone else seeing this?
I know it's not just LEGO, other toys are suffering in this day and age. But I'm not going to pretend that THEY'VE STILL GOT IT like /lg/ does. Oh no no no!
