An interesting situation is unfolding. What do you think about the McFarlane Elite edition line? Does it look like a good portent or a bad one for people who follow toys and how the toy market is responding to high domestic pricing?
At first with Doomguy and Lilith it looked like the line's conception was to be extreme low production run and high prices for an attempt at a return to the "glory days" of McFarlane staction figures when his figures looked good and had an impressive amount of painted detail.
But once the Persona 3 figure got revealed, and even more so after the Fallout one, a bait and switch seemed to occur. The quality, paint and detail has nosedived so far that it seems like it's just $60 DC Multiverse or a $60 McFarlane anime figure.
Even worse for McFarlane Toys, it seems like even if these are limited quantities to lower risk, they are not selling out (barring the madness on Doomguy because he's, well, Doomguy and the best looking of them). Leading to the possibility McFarlane Toys may go the way of Super 7 with online retailers being flush with stock of a bunch of figures they can't sell at anything but a loss. This would not make retailers happy.
What do you think will happen with this line? Will collectors end up embracing it eventually, will it be hit or miss, or will it crash and burn? >/ctg/ - coomer toys general

How come Fairly OddParents only got toys from 2003 to 2005 and then afterwards, barely got any toys afterwards aside from recently with Funko Pops? Nickelodeon was hoping to turn OddParents into a Rugrats or SpongeBob in terms of merchandise, but they gave up on it after 2005, even though the show was in production until 2017

Have you ever thought about starting a toy company? How hard would it be? I've seen a handful of Chinese anime figure companies popping up lately which made me wonder about it. Though they probably have a huge advantage being local to factories.
But if you are artistically inclined, I think you could do a lot of the work yourself and save on hiring cost. Like I could

That's already a good chunk of it I feel I could hypothetically do myself. But still I know there is a lot more involved. Deco, packaging, connecting with a factory and distributors, legal stuff, etc. But maybe it's not THAT high of a mountain to climb? I'm not considering it or anything but it's fascinating to think about and I wonder with how small of a team you could accomplish it with. I always feel like I should be using toys for reaction images when posting here, but I don't have that many reaction images, so I figured we could all share some images.

Japanese care more about toys.

Cop or Drop? Hello my name is anon and I purchase too much Glyos. Action figures have gotten really good since I was a kid. It's always funny to me to see people fight over which ones are the best these days because across the board the level of quality is so high now.
Whether it's Gundam, Macross, Transformers, etc sculpts, articulation, QC and paint jobs generally seem much better today than 20-30 years ago, especially if you consider 3rd party figures.
I'm wondering if there's any documentaries or blogs that explain what advancements took place over the last 3 decades to allow this to happen? Is anyone else into "live steam"? (Stationary Engines, Traction Engines, Trains)
I feel like I'm the only one under 40 who's into it

SUPERSONIC MACHINES Obviously /toy/ likes to argue about the best import companies, but who is the best domestic toy company? Hasbro and Mattel are obviously the biggest, with Hasbro producing more stuff that’s popular here, but they’re not the only companies. There’s Jakks, McFarlane, NECA, and more. Personally while I collect a lot of Hasbro stuff, I’d have to give it to NECA. I mostly collect just their horror stuff, but they always feel well worth the price with the amount of accessories and unique sculpting you get. With Hasbro, it’s mostly reuse and they always skimp on accessories. But I’m curious what other anons think. Are there any decent quality cheap 3.75 inch Soldiers figures out there. I'm looking for something more poseable than the chap mei bootlegs that are floating around everywhere for my Jurassic stuff. You collect for the characters, to have all in one unified style, rather than for the figure itself. If you're buying a set for an expensive minifigure, why would you just buy the mafex or shf of that figure? They really are just glorified funko pops.
When i was a kid, we had castle and space police and even power miners, but they don't have marketable characters, so lego killed them so they could sell glup shittos from star wars, like ahsoka.

The main problem is that every time zombie figue is either
1) cartoony (blue skin for example) or stylized
2) shitty (those old mcfarlane ones or kickstarter ones)
3) non articulated
I feel like we will never have a good quality zombie figure unless some ultra known company will suddenly make one because there will be a zombie in a famous movie or something like that.
Also why the hell Neca never made a zombie seriens? Neca making famous zombies from movies is like N1 free money.

-For soft, flexible parts get Sugru silicone putty and Oyumaru
-Hardware epoxy putties such as Waterweld, KwikWood, and PlasticWeld are similar to milliput, greenstuff, and apoxie, can be cheaper some times, and can be found at local hardware stores such as Lowes, Ace, and Home Depot.
-Bootleg figures make great custom-fodder, especially if the legit figures are pricey.
>Body-chan/kun, Figma Archetype He/She, and Sozai-chan/kun are great base bodies for import-style human characters.

Momotaro from storm just went up. No official height yet, but if 1/10 He'll be around 185mm, same height as Blue. Are the 4000-4400 series good enough lathes to scratchbuild HO/HOn30/N scale model locomotives out of brass?
I only want to make tank engines with a 0-4-0 to 0-6-0ST wheelbase in HO, a wide variety of different locomotives in HOn30, and also a wide variety of locomotives in N scale. 2. The figure itself is weirdly placed despite being "sealed"

I just picked up the Mezco Indiana Jones and his thigh and shoulder joints stick whenever I bend them. When I bend them, they don't bend smoothly but unevenly/squeak along. If it is a hobby, it is a consumptive one, rather than a creative one. I’ve been rethinking my toy collecting lately and I just feel like a huge consuming hoarder.
Creative hobbies, by definition, would require that you be creating something.
Woodworking = Creative hobby. You are taking wood and making a new thing out of the wood.
Sewing = Creative hobby. You are taking fabric and creating clothes or blankets or other cloth goods out of it.
Baking = Creative hobby. You are taking raw ingredients and making food out of it.
Fermentation = Creative hobby. You are taking ingredients and canning or brewing with them to make them into a different thing.
Collecting is like grocery shopping. Grocery shopping is not a creative hobby. Cooking is a creative hobby.
You can use your collection for creative purposes (though most collectors do not).
Photographing action figures = Creative hobby. You are creating photographs.
Customizing action figures = Creative hobby. You are creating action figures.
Collecting action figures = Consumptive hobby. You are not creating anything, you are buying a thing someone else created. That's consumption.
To be clear: that's not an inherently bad thing, imo. I collect things. That's fine. But collecting things is not the same as creating things. Watching a movie is not a creative hobby. Making a movie is. Watching a movie might inspire you to make a movie, but watching a movie is consumption, not creation. How do we feel about the Paradise Roster?
