agreed, when I look at it now, Sasuke leaving the village and his subsequent downward spiral make perfect sense.

For one, Sasuke has sevre mental trauma, he literally witnessed his entire family, extended family included get butchered by his own brother the person he trusted most in his life at that point. So his motivations are sound.

I think one of the reasons that people don't like Sasuke is that he starts getting chummy with team 7 before the chunin exams, but afterwards he becomes distant and leaves the village. But what people gloss over is in his fught with Itachi at the Izakaya, Sasuke is put under Tsukuyomi and forced to relive the massacre a thousand times in a row by the very man who perpetrated it. Wouldn't you be messed up by something like that too? It's in that moment where Sasuke deicides he wasn't locked in enough and in the end seeks out power.

Then of course in part 2 Sasuke is willing to kill team 7, I kind of understand Naruto's motivations for trying to "save" Sasuke, on some level he understands the pain, guilt and path Sasuke has perused. Sasuke at this point is genuinly Insane, you can see it in the way he laughs and it's made more apparent when he tries to destroy the leaf village, which is another thing people hate him for.

Everyone always goes "well Itachi sacrificed the clan for the sake of Sasuke and the village" But I'm going to ask you this, Did Sasuke want him to do that? sure Itachi was stuck between a rock and a hard place and supposedly had Sasuke's best interest in mind but, he still killed Sasuke's whole family, there has to be resentment inside Sasuke on some level and when he finds out Danzo and co are responsible of killing his whole family, of stealing away his passed and future, of turning the person he trusted and respected most against him in a game of political chess. Wouldn't you do the same if you had the power to?
