What does the episode number have to do with anything? Just rechecked the timeline, he is 7 years old when he leaves home, so he spent 7 years with his parents. Which happens to be more than with Roxy and Sylphie put together, with whom he's supposed to have those super deep relationships of friendship, respect, and stealing underwear.

The story never suggests he's a useless piece of shit because of computers/internet, instead it says quite explicitly that he's afraid of the world and lacks the guts/will/motivation to engage with it. It's also a minor plot point that this does NOT change after his reincarnation, he is still afraid of outside and never wants to leave his parents' house. So it follows that he should have just as much motivation to study magic in the new world as he did to learn programming in the old one.
