Like, I am an oldfag in his mid 40s. Used to be very involved in the con scene back in the 90s and early 00s. I am currently on a very nostalgic mood about those days of yore, and planning to visit a few of the big cons to see how's the fandom nowadays. Would I be, as you youngsters say, cringe? Worse, would other congoers immediately assume I am a creepy pedophile? I don't really want to ruin some kids con experience like that.
Two things, I would be attending alone because the few con buddies from back then that I still keep in contact, are too jaded and busy to give a shit. Wholesome: Cosplaying some My Little Penis characters with my then-gf when a little girl started freaking out over how great we looked. She got her dad to take loads of pictures with both of us.
Less wholesome: I saw a fur-suiter yelling at his wife.
Least wholesome: Walking to the convention center behind my friend's sister in her Sailor Saturn cosplay, on a windy day. She either didn't notice or didn't care that her bare ass was playing aggressive peekaboo with me. Only time I've ever wanted the walk from the hotel to be longer.

"Boystyle" is shorthand for "boystyle lolita" and refers to the masculine counterparts of Japanese lolita and, often, aristocrat fashions. I live in Japan.
Last week I was out with a friend walking a short nature trail when we randomly stumbled across some cosplayers doing a shoot, not all together but spread out in groups in this one particular area with their respective photographers.
My friend and I finished the trail and were heading back to the parking lot when we saw one cosplayer and her photographer who were also heading back, seemingly finished for the day. She was playing a character I like so I went up to them and asked if I could have a picture with her. She politely declined, so that was a bummer, but my friend who was a bit further back told me that when I went up to them to ask, the cameraman looked extremely angry that I had done so and had frowned or glared at me "very hard." I didn't look at him at all so I couldn't tell, but I didn't get any kind of vibe like that and my friend isn't the best at reading social situations so I don't know whether I trust his judgment on this one.
Anyway, my question is, what are the protocols for these kinds of occasions? Is it considered rude to ask cosplayers for pictures in the wild, outside of cons or events? She did seem quite taken aback when I went up to her to ask, but I chalked that up to her not expecting a tall white guy to speak to her in Japanese. FWIW it seemed like a fairly hobby level cosplay so I don't think this was anyone famous or anything like that. Just wanted to share the cosplays I completed last year Marin (and variations) and Yor were the obvious FOTM cosplays for last con season. What are your predictions for this year?

They seem to have made a whole industry around cosplaying as groups for streams. The groups are typically themed as one property or another. I was made aware of this from a Naruto themed Douyin group. But all kinds of anime and other properties are used as themes. There are male groups as well as female groups. Viewers pay "gifts" to have members dance. Sometimes solo dances other times group dances.
I've never seen anything like this outside of Asian countries. Would anyone from the west consider doing something like this? Years ago, when cosplay started getting popular, but also sexual, I remember being a big fan of a certain cosplayer. They turned out to be quite rude to their fans, and I was left being disappointed by it.
Later as the years went by, I came upon information that her cosplay hype died down, her twitch and vtuber arc couldn't lift off the ground, and she lost her twitter verification, and just isn't popular anymore.
Basically what I'm trying to say in this thread is; fuck that whore. But also how has the cosplay community/scene been? Has it gotten more slutty? Worse? Better? Are people chill, or rude? Tell me your experiences from before (5-10 years ago) v.s now. For the Canadian gulls, now that Anime North and Otakuthon are over, what conventions is everyone still looking forward to for the rest of the year? Will anyone top the truck rave at Anime North? I need a reason not to kill myself. what is the secret to getting a beautiful cosplay? What cosplays are you hoping to see at Touhou Fest this year? There has been a big rise of these types of events across the country for the past couple of years. 18+ conventions aren't new, but specifically 18+ ecchi events seem to be its own kind of thing. What is more, I see a ton more sex workers at these cons, and it kind of reminds me of a porn convention. However, for some reason they still have everyone wear pasties and no one wants to be nude like a porn convention. (perhaps that is the "ecchi" part coming into play but it feels contradictory to me for some reason).
Do you think these types of events are a blessing or curse for the con scene? 
I'm a near-complete beginner to con culture and the "scene" due to zero exposure to it until recently and I have too many questions swimming around in my head that I need to ask. I've only been to a couple of small ones in my mostly-desolate area and I want to step up to traveling to bigger ones but I'm overwhelmed. Please bear with me.

I'm almost 100% certain it was the girl from pic related and she showed of her giant cluster of charms on her phone or keys, can't remember which one. The Flower Kitten series is releasing this week If i wanted to make my own late roman Tunica, how would i go about adding the Clavi? Apparentally it was woven into the fabric itself but i wonder if there's another or alternative way to do it? Last two years these threads were barely active and and it took a year for each to reach image limit or get archived prematurely (WTF jannies?) but whatever. Films/tv shows that are based on cosplay/con culture or at least reference it in some way.
I felt that 2Kawaii4Comfort was (for better or worse) the most accurate description of going to a small con and having a bad time at it. It's a shame it ended on a cliffhanger. Is it normal for people to ask for pictures and immediately leave after?

How do you even make friends at a con?
I went to a convention as Chainsaw Man last October and while over 20 people asked me for a pic, nobody actually stuck around or even made an attempt at small talk. I was hoping to meet people.
There's another convention coming up next month and I'm not sure if I wanna go get photographed and go back home all alone with no new contacts or friends again. It feels pointless going to cons alone. I just went to Otakuthon yesterday and I saw tons of people, I went to panels, I had tons of nice conversations, interactions and pictures, but it hurts knowing I'll probably never see any of these people again. The only real long interaction I had was with a guy playing Go with me and some other people, but beyond that, it never moved outside of small talk and compliments.
I'm still happy that I probably talked to over a 100 strangers in one day, something most people who are lonely fail to do, but being alone in a crowd truly hurts. I'm too old to understand this subculture please enlighten me

If you're old enough you should budget for a hotel room so you can party and party with strangers and make new friends. The best part about conventions is meeting people and subsequently running into them at other cons in other years and it's all so fucking beautiful. It's the only time you don't have to suppress your powerlevel because guess what? They know all the dumb memes you do and have a lot of overlap in interests and other things you enjoy. You can ask someone why they're green and actually learn something about Startrek because they fucking love star trek so much they painted themselves green! SO WHEN I ASK THEM THEY ARE MORE THAN WILLING TO GUSH ABOUT THE SHIT THEY LOVE! I FUCKING LOVE NERD CONVENTION SHIT HOLY FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I would like to cosplay LGBTrump. What wigs would you recommend for that cosplay? 
I am from /tg/ but I am hoping people can help me with my questions about the Baird Center which has hosted anime conventions in the past. I go to a convention called Adepticon, and this year will be the first year at the Milwaukee Baird Center. I have some questions about the convention and I am hoping people here can help!

My wife and I will go two days and we plan to drive back and forth since we only live 90 minutes away. My concern is if the parking garage will fill up, last Adepticon in IL had 8K to 10K attendees. My other worry is safty, I know this center is about 3 minute walk from the bad part of town. And I am going to have a big case with with 40K models in it, so I am worried about car break ins, or people trying to steal models at the con. Any info is greatly appreciated! Do people actually customize actual experience official props like marvel legends replicas or the Neca DC replica props? is being into cosplay at age 30+ cringe?

I'm really liking the look of the MSA Millennium gas mask, and I am looking to acquire one
Upon doing some quick googling, it seems like they're very expensive....
My budget is around $50 or so, if the Millennium is an unreasonable thought for that price range, I would love to hear about alternatives that are in my price range
Also, what kinds of filters are accepted by the MSA Millennium? I feel like it might not be standard 40mm STANAG filters, which may mean I would like to hear affordable filter suggestions as well

I have mixed feelings about RedNote since they have their own issues with censorship. Also IG Reels just doesn't have the same quality algorithm as TikTok.
