Yeah this is why Rodimus and Drift are among the most popular characters and shipping favorites. They aren't bad at all as characters, but I noticed that most of their fans draw them like anime girls with curves and interpret them as such. The other case is Starscream, an actually great character but he's often reduced to the battered hoursewife or moe blob for fluff.

I always wondered why a franchise about genocidal wars, dictatorships and war crimes attracted these people to begin with.

Tbh I liked Cyclonus' part in this. Aka the development he got. But I never liked Tailgate. His design isn't for me and he acted like an egoistic brat till the end of the series. I hope I am not scaring their fans now. I am totally fine to see pretty art of any of the characters. But I never liked him, or the pairing.
To me it always made more sense to leave them be teacher/bratty student. Cyclonus should still get his development, but he doesn't need love for that. I LOVE him but he always struck me as asexual. And if I imagine him in a relationship in IDW1 it would be either Nova Prime, Galvatron (again) or maybe even Whirl but him Tailgate.
