Skinny and baggy are both extreme ends of the specturm that will go in and out of style. For safe staples go with straight or slim.

Unfortunately there is no cheat code to style, its something you develop over time. Throwing out your whole wardrobe is generaly not recommended, but idk what you're working with.

Don't bother chasing trends. Being on trend does not make you more hip to anyone besides the insta/tiktok teens who follow that stuff. Better to focus on looking decent without going too crazy.

Some things you can do that will always help:
1. Get clothes that actually fit. Sticky is outdated but has good info on this. Ideally find a tailor you like, but that's not 100% necessary if you live in bumfuck nowhere.

2. Buy fewer clothes in higher quality. EVERYONE can tell that a nice soft $40-60 plain tee with a thicker weave looks nicer than a scratchy, thin $15 gildan tee even if they don't know why. Avoid fast fashion.

3. Start off buying high quality, versitile, neutral pieces. High quality blue/black/grey jeans, chinos, plain tees in various colors and cuts, ocbd, etc. White leather sneakers, brown leather shoes, some nice boots. Don't go buy some crazy Rick shoes you won't know what to do with. Build your wardrobe gradually. These pieces will probably be useful to you no matter what style you end up with. They're worth spending money on because they will last and always be applicable to your outfits.

If all you wanna do is pass for human, you can stop there desu. You can wear a plain white tee, jeans and some stan smiths every day for the rest of your life and be fine.

5. Never stop looking at other people's fits. What makes them look good? Can you emulate it? What would make them look better? Consider the colors, the sillhouette, the materials, the accessories.
