Cowboy hats are a big investment and can be a bit of a hassle. I've got a few and wear them for certain stuff but they're annoying to if you're in and out of a truck all day, a pain to deal with when they're not on your head, etc. Most styles are also pretty hot compared to a trucker cap, even straw ones. (There ARE types that wear shockingly cool but they're often ugly and not very popular.)

They're big in the red parts of West Coast states too. I'm in Oregon east of the Cascades and they're all over the place once you get out of the city, and I've seen the same thing in California.
