Exactly my point. You are no longer talking about desktop operating systems. If you want to bring in advertising platforms then I have to point out that when you claim

The numbers over the last year when including advertising supported platforms clearly show that they are.

Linux based OSes 47.50% +4.36
VMS clones (NT) 25.46% -3.57
BSD based OSes 23.42% -1.13

If you drill into the NT share we see a similar split to other OSes with Desktop vs Advertising platform
Advertising platform 24.68
Desktop OS 0.57 (2.24%)

This is actually slightly worse than the split in Linux with Desktop vs Advertising platform
Advertising platform 46.18
Desktop 1.32 (2.78%)

Most users simply do not care that they do not have a full power computer operating system. Companies like Microsoft have no incentive to produce them. Advertising platforms allow them to produce more money from their user base.
If NT was open source, the users interested in having a full power and high performance platform could fork, but unfortunately that is not an option.
