Not true, as there are languages like Lisp, APL, Prolog, Haskell that are vastly different.

We learned programming in school. When I got to university, their introductory course in programming was held in Scheme, which is a Lisp dialect and works completely differently than any imperative programming language you might know. The professors said they had made this choice so that students who had learned programming in school and those who didn't would have an equal start at the university, and because the "Wizard Book" (Abelson Sussman - Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs) was a very good book.
