I don't see why they feel the need to lie about this. When you have 500 applicants for one internship, and particularly now that the whole DEI thing is calming down, the process is going to look something like

>discard anyone with imperfect grades

>discard half of the pile because you don't want unlucky people working for you
>invite the 10 remaining applicants for interview
