They also forget about it because they's spent the last 45-50 years (their most important) chained to neoliberalism to the point that nationalisation, government spending or taxing wealth is a dirty word to them. It's to the point that selling off infrastructure & resources, cheering on foreign investment is hailed as a good thing actually! It's fine if someone else buys up this small business! All until it leaves the country or moves elsewhere to cut costs, eventually falling behind.
Its not exclusive to the US and the UK either, it still plagues Europe, it's now hurting Germany and why the tech sector flatlines. It costs too much to do so much as nationalise something as simple as a virgin steel planet, never mind building fabs or manufacturing. Forget the idea of even pivoting your existing manufacturing towards assembling anything that can be used in a foundry either, who is going to play for it!?!?!?!

You're not seeing that until 2029 or 2030 at the earliest, at that time it will be too great. When people look back at generations like Ada or Blackwell, some government goon doing an inquiry isn't going to sit them down and ask why they didn't clamshell, why did you use such a puny bus and chase compute? How come all of your products seem to only benefit from massive enterprise mark up?
Rubin will do the same, top end compute either forced through die shrink & using larger capacity or faster GDDR modules but refusing to clamshell of anything but the top 96GB tier enterprise product and nobody at the government will question them.
