etc. There may be a certain percentage of of autists focused on a Thinkpad from decade(s) ago as good enough and while that's all well and good for light desktop usage or a fun little project, sperging about everything else being overpriced is not. However I think a lot of it is just contrarianism - not unlike how on /v/ (and to a degree /g/ ) there's a certain percentage of people who hate the Steam Deck even though if you told oldfags Steam would be selling a FOSS Arch-based SteamOS UMPC, Wine+DXVK etc that would be part of Proton sufficient to make most games 'just work" even for normalfags, Gamescope compositor for Big Picture UI + Desktop mode, no lockdown and full capability to load emulators/games or just plain applications from elsewhere including repos, and many games having a "verified works on Linux" badge because of it , it would be considered a fever dream that would be unlikely to ever come true.

So goes it with Framework, where oldfags were upset about the proprietary nature of laptops, the lack of "premium" options, poorly supported shit in one way or another (Back when one of the first VAIO ultrabooks had a custom SSD that didn't support TRIM and cost a fortune, how any 'gaming' notebook depended on Windows only utilities, soldered RAM etc) and how nobody bothered with repairable or upgradable laptops, where MXM failed etc. If someone would have told them that there would be a thing that had a form factor and chassis style similar to a Macbook Pro, was modular from top to bottom, repairable, and upgrade capable - with actual compatibility AND availability of component, Linux friendly, had up to date hardware, and open sourced embedded controller, they'd cheer. Framework isn't perfect (waiting for OpenSIL) but they're doing shit that would have been unthinkable awhile ago.
