That explains a bit (And I don't mean in the usual shit-ass way)
Sorry for any implied rudeness from my previous post. I can explain a few things I happen to know.

Insofar as the EU goes, I have little info.
US wise, it's MC/Visa (functionally neck and neck), Discover, AmEx. For a long while (and on ocassion, somewhat), Discover wasn't accepted at many places due to charging a higher fee on the establishment. IIRC when they acquired and integrated Diner's Club, they got a bit more widespread, and over time most places accepted them.

JCB formerly operated in the US, but pulled out due to lack of interest. Discover cards are supposed to function on JCB's network and vice-versa, but it's almost exclusively in-person.

American Express is a strange wild-card. They operate and aim towards a higher end clientele, and even still charge foreign transaction fees on some of their cards (the one I use for fantia, for example, hits me with a few extra cents charge every time). I don't actually remember seeing any "We accept Amex" in my 2 weeks in Japan, but I didn't have the card at the time. It's an unusual card even in the states, so I can't imagine it's overwhelmingly popular in Asia.

Still, the market demographic it aims for, as well as generally operating itself (Visa/MC not generally being the actual bank you deal with in the US, and debit cards having the option of using the debit system instead), means that Amex is unlikely to change. The push would have to be much more internal, and against a more focused demographic.

Buyee is a strange one. They're owned and operated by Tenso, which can and will ship adult items. Buyee cannot due to identity verification laws (I had to give Tenso proof of ID, Buyee does not require this iirc). It's a convenience trade-off, effectively. Black Rabbit and Neokyo also required this to use their services, so I think specific types of deputy service rules are why some have changed.
