Y'all should educate yourselves what REAL funk is. Not this mayo spiceless facsimile of funk.
It really grinds my gears that this no talent shitty band got famous and rich only due to the white privilege

Make yourself a favor and listen to real deal. James Brown, Parliament, Sly Stone.
They make legit art, not some honky tunes for little white girls

I wish she wasn't such a fuckin skank.

God she's got so many bangers and classics. She's ultra talented and could have been Taylor swift (pbuh) tier famous if she just kept it pg.

Jolene, nothing breaks like a heart, party in the USA. And she ruins it all with shitty tattoos, sidewalk pissing and getting her tits out every 3 seconds. Yuck. Vile bitch.

>At the premiere of The Mikado on 14 March, 1885, principal soprano Leonora Braham performed the entire second act, including the notoriously challenging aria "The Sun Whose Rays Are All Ablaze" while drunk on an entire bottle of brandy and several glasses of gin. Braham, who was firmly in the grips of what we would now call PTSD following the suicide of her husband (a composer, who shot himself in front of her) had developed a dependence on alcohol to cope and to induce sleep. Despite her state of drunken despondency, she gave what is widely regarded as one of the greatest performances of her life, only collapsing after the final curtain call.

Multiple Question Thread
2024
1) What are some of your top albums this year, in general or even albums released this year?
2) What new bands (as in recently emerged in the past couple of years) have you guys been listening to?
3) To add to that, what new songs have you been enjoying?
4) and to top that off, what scenes and genres of music that are gaining traction that you guys have noticed?
I'm curious just because there seems to be a high amount of redundancy and repetition on this board with a low amount of new bands or musicians to discuss, and I want to engage in a conversation with all of you about the new that's out there, any kind of new.
Thank you.

Metal was metal back then. Metal right now — you have so many subcategories of metal now, it's ridiculous. I understand individualism and that, and we can really use a lot more frontmen like that, like Ozzy [Osbourne] and Ronnie and all them people, Lemmy and that. We don't have that anymore. All we have is a bunch of wannabe-WEEZER-looking dudes trying to play metal. Everybody's sporting black-frame glasses and wearing trucker caps. Nobody gives a shit about imagery anymore, looking the part of metal and that. I walk around 24 hours a day looking [like I do]. I can't shake it, man. I'm never gonna fall into that. I've always been that way, too, about the guys on stage, man. You're not gonna come out there wearing a fucking plaid shirt and white tennis shoes. It's not happening."

The Natural Bridge
images (42)
This album flourishes with so many wonderful touches and subtle nuances on every single level within each song. The typical statement is to say that David's lyrics are the star, but the band itself, especially the rhythm section, elevates the material to a stratospheric level. They don't rely on the familiarity of the sound to convey a sense of intimacy, rather remaining busy with these well-established tools throughout the entire runtime, always trying to carve a beautifully singular home suiting both its host and its environment. It is a nocturnal folksy country-tinged melancholic album, but it's not ''the nocturnal folksy country-tinged melancholic'' album, if that makes sense. It doesn't wallow, nor pretend, it just breathes and observes. The songs never fail to guide you to someplace new, and no matter how much you fool yourself that you can guess its next move, you're left amazed. And it becomes all the more astonishing once you realize that the story of this record is a rushed last minute recording with a bunch of (highly skilled, i must say) Drag City session musicians that were previously unfamiliar with the songs, because it all emanates with such love and care for them, without which they wouldn't have been filled with so many intricacies while avoiding to be even a tiny bit redundant. Nobody else would have made those words sound as earnest as these guys did. I sincerely feel like American music as a whole was building up to this pure embodiment of 'lightning in a bottle', where everything came to a crossroad. 10/10.
>I find it so, amazing how
>I go where I'm led
You can gush about Berman, this band, this album, or preferably your favorite record too in this thread. It's nice to hold and share a genuine love for things.

I want stuff with a FAT kick and that stays true to the original 90s UK happy hardcore sound but with modern production and ideas. So much modern happy hardcore is either too stale and rips off the 90s or too… poppy? I guess

How the fuck was Arthur Lee so based?

>Only Black Artist credit with helping to create Neofolk
>One of only two American artists to be feasibly credited with helping to create neofolk
>Credited as one of the first examples of rapping in music
>His first album predates and predicts elements of things that The Beatles and The Doors did later
>I know I shit on both of those bands too but they're both pretty popular
>Name dropped by both The Damned and Death in June
>Manages to both predate and predict The first Velvet Underground
>Completely avoids most stereotypical boomer blues tropes on most songs by directly fusing Mariachi,Eurofolk,Classical,Military,Funk,Soul, and Counrry Elements, still manages to have boomer blues rock riffs during parts where it is actually cool to have them in
>Was friends with Jimi Hendrix who also named him as an inspiration
>Crazy fucking use of compositional elements and structural elements as a whole and appealing to European Romanticism while still not really being proggy at all ever and being easily identifiable as American Garage Rock
>Cuts down on direct blues elements and is still recognizable as American Garage Rock

Why are they so underrated?

Whoever got the idea to market her as a sexy playful blonde making campy disco bops instead of some introspective garbage about relationship drama is a genius.

Espresso is one of the most fun pop hits in recent memory and she's going to be bigger than Dua Lipa within the next 12 months (Illusion released on the same day and Espresso is outstreaming it by almost 300% on Spotify)

Why do you guys all hate Modernism and Cinematic Styles of Classical? Those seem like the most bombastic and dynamic subgenres to me alongside ofc The German Romantacists and Pfitzner and Wagner and all that shit. Do you just not like loud, dynamic, and rivoting music? Handel Haydn,Wagner, and Pfitzner 100% were the best of the more traditional composers too.

I have a song stuck in my head and I have no idea where I heard it or any details I could use to look it up besidesthe tune itself which I can't sing myself. It has no words that I can distinguish and it is just angelic soprano or treble. It is a hopeful yet melancholy tune.
I'm not even 100% sure I heard it; it could be just something my imagination came up with.
Have you guys ever had this experience?
