Hey voyagers,
The sticky probably needs to be updated, I'll keep the thread open for suggestions:

>This was supposed to be an anti-tourism protest in Barcelona, one of many co-ordinated across southern Europe on Sunday.
>After making a short political stand, the Assembly for Tourism Degrowth moved on, with the tourist magnet of the Sagrada Familia church in our sights
>Then came the tape. Activists began crossing the front entrance repeatedly, symbolically “barring” entry with red-and-white ribbon. It was too much for one hostel employee, who stormed out shouting in frustration.
>Protesters sprayed him with their water pistols as he tore through the tape, grabbed one of the guns, and returned fire. A brief scuffle broke out, with pushing and shoving, before he was eventually pulled back inside.
>Moments later, another activist emerged from the crowd and picked up where the soaking had left off. He kicked a smoke bomb into the hostel, where horrified tourists – including children – looked on.
>For groups like hers, tourism is not just a nuisance but a form of “economic colonisation,” where quality of life is sacrificed for the comfort of short-term visitors. Their goal, they insist, is not better tourism but less of it.
>That may be true for most activists but their actions sometimes blur the line. The most common chant that echoed throughout the day was: “Tourists go home, refugees welcome.”
Do you consider yourself a good tourist? Would you sit there like a cuck if you got smoked out of a hostel and sprayed by 30 refugees with water pistols? The single most underrated country for /trv/

IDK, kind of? I just don't want to double my trip price for a slightly nicer flight. It's toxic to say $5k is a trivial amount of money and anyone who says this should be banned. I stayed up all night before my 12 hr flight so I would be tired enough to pass out on the plane. Once I boarded, I took 5 melatonin gummies and they didn't help. I wasn't nervous or anything either, and this was the second time of me flying this long without being able to sleep. Any suggestions on something that'll knock me out next time? Where to go to eat the best street food? Anyone know of stuff to do in Buenos Aires? I'm going to be there for about a month from mid-April to mid-May and most of that time will be free time.

And i stood up on my bike and let out a big victory yell, and then the next 2 weeks I was full of life and energy and beleive it or not, i was even getting chicks.

Welcome to the Philippines!
Here we discuss the cultural exchanges, Filipino cuisine, the beaches, the waterfalls, ecotourism, and the night life of Manila and Cebu.
Other topics of discussion are Vloggers in the Philippines.
Transportation in the Philippines.
Filipino politics regarding foreigners.
Finally, we cannot discuss how fat cuckshed is! Surely, there's at last one safe place in this whole thing. Here we share our unfiltered advice for staying cheaply longterm in countries.
Certain land borders in Thailand accept a small fee in exchange for virtually guaranteed reentry into Thailand with firstie passport. You don't need to work with a 3rd party service and it's just a 1.5hr motorbike ride from an airport that's cheap to fly to.
What advice do you guys have for staying year round in Thailand or any country for that matter? I heard Taiwan is good for a US visa holder. Vietnam also?
Is there a state with a more undeservedly smug view of itself than Minnesota? The week I spent in Minnesota was the most disappointing trip I've ever taken. It's not like it's the worst place I've ever visited, but it's pretty bland and doesn't do anything that other places don't do a lot better.
>Twin Cities
Minnesotans seem to think these cities are on par with real cities like Chicago, New York, or LA. The Twin Cities metro is mostly suburban sprawl, and not the fun kind of sprawl like Houston. The number one tourist attraction is a large, shitty shopping mall.
>Outdoors
Not godawful, but fairly flat and repetitive. Nothing nearly as good as the the Badlands and Black Hills in their neighbor, South Dakota, and there are better places to visit a Great Lake. Absolutely crushed by the outdoors in places like California or Utah. I visited in the summer, although I doubt winter is especially fun there.
>High culture
Outside of the Minneapolis Institute of Arts (a great museum, especially for an area that size) there isn't much.
>Low culture
One might expect a state that's one of the worst dressed to have all sorts of fun low culture. It doesn't. Minnesota never developed any sort of good local or regional cuisine like a BBQ style, Detroit Coneys, or deep dish pizza. There doesn't appear to be any dumb fun like lowrider culture either.
>People
Shockingly smug about their mediocre state
Hi everyone,
There used to be regular threads on /trv/ regarding interpals. Tandem is kind of its successor in some ways, but haven't used it personally.
For a while interpals had gone to shit. It was full of bots/crypto scammers that inundated any real discussion. But I remade an account recently and was surprised it seems the site is in a bit of a re-surgence.
So what is interpals? It's a site that is structure really like the old online dating sites where you could just click a profile and send a message. No AI or algorithm bullshit involved and no pay-structure. In theory its a site for language exchange or pen pals, but its also used a lot for flirting and meet-ups. I guess we gotta keep this SFW
For the younger lads, this website could be a boon for you provided you aren't a total sperg. You can send out some feelers and have some local meetups in countries that you want to visit. Just be careful as a lot of the people on this site aren't exactly the most balanced individuals.
I made a pretty basic account and already got invited by Qts in morocco, china and japan, I mean they'd probably chicken out at this stage if I bit the bullet but it's something. Not everyone will get that but it seems its easier than before, and lots of new accs. Also this site is full of extremely thirsty Indonesian women for some reason.
Also please share experiences with tandem.
Trying to revive the older adventurous spirit of this board. It's kind of gone to shit now. I can travel for free using google earth Anyone have any experience traveling out west? Why the hell is this so common in SEA? Holy shit I thought this was a meme, is there some magic words I am missing? Not even staying in one of those shitty OYO rat dens these are pretty decent hotels with gyms, included breakfast, etc. Like fuck man my check in at my next hotel isn't until 3 let me kill time with my luggage in peace for a few hours. Asking to chill in the lobby before or after check in often seems like a roll the dice and I hate paying stupid high prices of late checkout. What's the work around? Which ones are worth a visit on this one? I am not too interested in North Africa tho. Is there any state in the US that is hot year-round and affordable (say $1400/mo rent)?
I lived in Florida for a few years with family and absolutely loved the weather, but said family passed away and I couldn't afford it by myself.
California fits the weather bit by way too pricey, my only other consideration was Arizona but I've read a lot of mixed things about living there. Thailand Vs Vietnam. Which do you prefer and why? Also side question, what's traveling SEA like during the Summer months? Is it awful? You might think you're cool and quirky, and that you're the centre of attention everywhere you go, but please think of the locals who have to pay higher rent prices because you showed up. Thank you. Is there any meaning behind a hotel claiming to be rated "three star" or "four star" or whatever? I'm at a supposed "four star" hotel in Buenos Aires and it's not nearly as nice as a "three star" place I stayed at in Thailand (and costs 2.5X as much). This place is more like the "two star" hotels I stayed at in Bangkok. The only advantage this "four star" place has over the "two star" ones is that it has a microwave and a little cooktop in case you want to heat something up in your room. I used to travel with my dad and older brother a lot, but my dad is getting old and my brother got married and a promotion so he's pretty busy with his life. What are some of the best places to visit as a solo female traveller without getting bothered? My mom went to Spain once when she was in her 20s and the harassment was so bad my dad could never convince her to go on another trip anywhere.
>inb4 india, saudi arabia, any number of joke countries, etc.
Fuck off. Is there an upper class in Pakistan that is liberal and educated with liberated, promiscuous women - and could a traveler mingle within such a circle? What the fuck is he thinking, he basically nuked his entire channel
I'm not paying for that shit
I'm weighing the pros and cons vs. just continuing to live at my parents' house. I'm also trying to decide where I should go, if I should.
I was thinking:
>A few months in Japan (Tokyo)
>A few months in Korea (Seoul)
>A few months in Taiwan?
>a week trip or so using pto, maybe in China
Outside of that, I'm not sure. Maybe some time in Bali just to sit by the beach. I could do Mexico or South America, or somewhere in Europe, but I dunno.
Here are my issues:
>Money
I will probably spend $3k a month minimum, versus like $1k in my parents' basement. That's a difference of $24k over a year. Not including flights, or a new laptop, or whatever it is that I'll need to do this. Is that really worth it? On the other hand, it's hard to get an experience like this.
>Time
Of course, I will have to work the entire time, and it will be in EST or roughly around those hours. That means my whole schedule will be off compared to local time. And of course I will be working, so I'm not sure how enjoyable it will actually be.
>Work
This is one of those "ask for forgiveness, not permission" type deals. I will have to put in some work to keep things discreet. That means a server running at home to VPN into, a neutral background for meetings, etc. I probably wouldn't get fired but there's definitely a risk.
If anons have done something similar, I'd appreciate some advice. Was it worth it? Is 1 year too long? Should I pick fewer destinations? I have 50 days of holiday from September to mid-October. I haven't decided how long I should stay in each country. I know the Philippines is generally considered worse than Thailand in some ways. With hookups and dating in mind, how would you suggest I split the 50 days between Thailand and the Philippines? I'm thinking 20 days in Thailand and 30 days in the Philippines. Also, is Indonesia(Jakarta) worth visiting? Some people say it's underrated for hookups and dating, but I have my doubts since it's a Muslim-majority country. What's the dealio when it comes to travelling with meds? Looking for answers from Australians, mostly, since I don't know what it's like with other countries. Anyone live there, been there? I'll be passing through in a couple months. What do you recommend? How's the altitude sickness was it killer? Food, drink, interesting souvenirs? Going to guess that Spanish is a necessity? Lay it on me.
Some white men do sex tourism in Iran by nominally doing a conversion to Shia Islam and then doing temporary marriage (mut'ah or sigheh) for a few days with a Persian woman.
You just need money to bribe a mullah to conduct the sigheh.
https://www.hostelworld.com/blog/solo-travel-to-iran/
>A Month Of Marriage In Iran
>There was however one further hurdle to overcome… Another quirk of Iran’s conservative theocratic regime is that unmarried couples travelling together raise eyebrows and even risk the wrath of the religious police. We were certainly going to struggle to get a room together anyway. Fortunately, Esme had a cunning plan;
>“We can get married”
>Marriage! I liked Esme but, really? I had only just met her!
>“It’s OK, its only a temporary marriage. They are permitted under Islamic law and it will expire in a month once you leave Iran”.
>Solo travel Iran
>I was sold… Sort of. We spent the next day high-tailing around Tehran trying to seek out a liberal Mullah who would accept that my sudden conversion to Islam was a genuine call of faith and not just some blasphemous stunt to elope with a beautiful girl. One co-operative Mullah and $30 later, and we were married; at least for a while.
>A few days later we departed, clutching our backpacks, and headed off to explore Iran together. Over the next weeks we took in the magnificent Shiraz region, the stunning, rainbow colored volcanic island of Hormuz (pictured below) and even crashed Iran’s underground party scene.
Any foreigners met Persian women inside Iran, or with Persian women visiting neighbouring countries like UAE, Turkey or Georgia?

Disney parks were initially founded as a way to celebrate the culture and history of America and provide middle class families with a fun-filled immersive experience. While theme parks are the main focus of these threads (and the title of the general) there is also discussion on other roller coasters & rides, as well as the parks themselves and trip planning too. That's where /rcg/ comes in.
>Can I talk about Disney/Universal parks in this thread?
Absolutely! Disney and Universal are currently competing for the Orlando theme park market and beyond! Universal is opening new resorts all around the US and new continents!

Some place that feels grungy ('city that never sleeps' nightlife, underground clubs/bars where you stumble across shady business dealings, etc.) while being futuristic (megacity sprawl, cutting edge transport, autonomous drone use, etc).
Cities in the Far East come to mind first when considering the tech and futuristic feel. Seoul, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taipei and the like, but they also seem like they would lack the grime element, too clean. On the other hand you have cities in the Americas that seem like they would have the grime element, Buenos Aires, Rio, but they lack the tech element. What does /trv/ think? Any first hand experiences would be much appreciated. Why is this place so useless
>taking holiday to Japan
>get told it's not too hot yet august is the worst time
>hmm okay June is fine then
>over 30 degrees today and tomorrow
>over 30 degrees the entire month I took off for some nice time in Japan before it gets over run with summer holiday tourists
>already filled to the brim of yanks and other people who should stay home you know who you are australia
>don't even want to go take a swim in the beaches because it's too hot
>Cold drink in a pub only makes this worse(which is so expensive almost 8 quid)
>water tastes horrible here no flavor
>barely leaving the hostel due to it being so bad
What gives? Why is everyone on this board so stupid? Why is Japan so hot? I thought asians were smart why would they CHOOSE to live in a place that hot and moist. The Japan General either trolled me or it's filled with americans who've never traveled and larping. What's wrong with advice on this board? Spending a week a friend's house in Venetto Italy. Went to Venice, Bologna, Rovigo, Verona, Revana, Forli.
Pros:
- Not insanely hot
- Amazing Food
- Beer is not as bad as I thought it woul be.
- Everyone looks good, the wops are actually white.
- Surprisingly affordable if you aren't dumb.
- People are ridiculously friendly, not used to this since I grew up with southerners and they're absolute scum.
- Verona is the most beautiful city I've ever seen.
- Trains are decent.
Cons:
- Niggers
- Jeets
- Abduls
- High Taxes if one were to live here.
Is it worth going to Florence tomorrow? Is it worth moving to Verona? For context, I am white with blue eyes. Is china actually good for travelling or is it just china spreading propaganda again? >41 single male
>3 weeks leave
Choices:
-China
-New Zealand
-Italy/Greece/Germany
I wouldn't mind meeting a girl but at this age and stage I am probably past it. I did do too well with woman when I stayed in the UK for 2 months (only picked up one girl) so I am thinking that my results may be similar in Europe?
I am interested in Europe because I've never been there, only the UK. New Zealand is cheap with incredible hikes and drives available & China is essentially the center of the world right now...I've always had a dream of going to Chongqing and it's something I must fulfill.
THESE are the only options I've done everywhere else that I am interested in. 6 times Japan etc, Thailand 2-3 times etc etc etc.
I want to have sex, but I also want cultural stuff I don't just want a Pattaya party I want a mix of everything...Terracotta warriors meets 25 year old hottie in my hotel room...
Driving from SLC to El Paso over july 4 weekend and I want to take two extra days off so I have 5 days.
I usually would do nature stuff but the cultural heritage stuff seems more interesting.
>Day 1 (july 3) finish work at 3pm and drive to Durango or Pagosa springs Colorado
>Day 2 (july 4) drive to Taos and do full day there
>day 3 (july 5) full day in Taos area
>day 4 (july 6) drive to santa fe... full day in santa fe (visit some spanish sites on the way
>Day 5 (july 7) santa fe full day
>day 6 (july 8) drive to acoma pueblo, tour city in the sky (big bucket list item), drive to ABQ and chillax
>Day 7 (july 8) work from ABQ, get off work at 3pm and drive to el paso
Thoughts?
Main shit I want to see besides wandering the cities:
>Taos Pueblo
>San Francisco de Asís Mission Church
>Las Trampas: San José de Gracia Church
>El Santuario de Chimayó
>San Miguel Chapel (oldest USA church :D)
>at least 1 art museum
>If I need some more stuff to fill time Bandelier National Monument
>Acoma village is my main must see >ctrl+f "vegas"

India's a shithole too but at least they're full of history, scenery, and historic sites I see I can get a cheap flight to Manchester, maybe I could spend a week there and see Liverpool, Chester is also close by. Lake district probably too far.
Is the area outrageously expensive compared to continental Europe? What would I need to avoid in the area and what would you recommend? Really?
I will be cancelling. Anyone been to pacific island nations? Which ones were the best? Any interesting experiences? >just fly anon

I'm trying to plan a summer trip - but its too hot for lower elevation places. I'm Europoor with opportunity to do 6 months exchange program within the next year. I'm considering going to Asia because I haven't been there and the culture interests me. China is at the top of my list but I'm also considering Japan and Singapore. Does anyone have experience how the experience is like? My understanding is that locals study pretty much 24/7 but is it easy to go out with other exchange students and explore the country? If most of the studies are in the local language, I assume it's difficult to actually do much studying there other than the local language.
I could afford to just travel there on my own for 6 months but I think going for exchange could open up more opportunities to make friends. You have to go on a 2 week long vacation to the random city you get on https://randomcity.net/

But im wondering what remedies do you guys have for when moral is low? Got a job offer here. Would be a 2-year contract in the Albuquerque area. I’ve never been. Heard very positive and very negative things about this state. The climate and cost of living seem nice. Crime and culture less so.

It kind of seems like Tokyo and New York are the only two places worth visiting in the world. I'm planning to visit the following places in June:
Kuala lumpur
Cameron highlands
George town
Perhentian
Medan (sumatra orangutans)
I arrive and depart from KL. Any recommendations to move from one place to the other, and in which order?
Going to Cameron Highlands seems like a pain in the ass since the bus is 3 to 4h are there better alternatives?
Better alternatives to Perhentian to dive? (not in Borneo)
Are Singapore or Melaka worth visiting?
Any other places worth visiting?

Good pussy is a plus.
Cost of living is a plus, but not a big deal. Not because I'm rich, but because living in a minivan is basically free. > solo traveling
> guy I’m carpooling with drops me off at drop off point, says his friends are waiting for him so he can’t drive me all the way
> “ok”
> asks me if I’ll be alright
> “yeah I’ll figure something out”
> no Uber, no taxi, 10km away from nearest town with heavy luggage
> attempt to hitchhike out of desperation
> third fucking car is the cops
> they ask me what my name is
> panic
> “uhh fakename”
> they ask me if I just made that up
> “no”
> they ask me if I need a ride
> “No my friend is coming over to pick me up”
> “alright stay safe”
> WHY THEY FUCK DID I LIE
> they leave
> I immediately burst into tears
What the fuck is wrong with me? Am I incapable of any proper social interaction? Now I feel too embarrassed but I don’t know what else to do I think I may be stuck here.
I havent been out of my country canada for 3 years. just been unenthused after my last trip to my parents home country croatia. theyre from dalmatia which is flocked with tourists and it felt so blah. i researched italy, spain, and got to know the intense anti tourism movements they got goin on there. and also that shit is shoulder to shoulder packed with all tourists if u go to rome/florence/barcelona etc. and that just does not interest me
i have developed a new theory of travel: find the worst, most unnotable place in a place, and go there for 2-3 weeks. my favorite place in croatia was benkovac. 0 tourists, nothing to see. just vibes. if i went to italy? id go to prob molise. england? some shithole area. i bet its no tourists there and u can just live and enjoy. sure. u dont get to see thigns in person, like rome, but desu, if u are "Seeing" it in lineups surrounded by foreigners like u just a buncha assholes taking snapshots, are u even seeing anything? and there is no worry of me ruining the ugly shitty cities by inundating them with tourists cause tourists cant get selfies in these places so theyre under no risk. I'm visiting there next week (solo). What are the must see sights and what are some of the tips you'd recommend to get the most out of it? At what age is it objectively and unquestionably cringe to go out clubbing, partying etc. when traveling?
It seems to me that you can easily get away with it in mid-30s if you look young. Can one push it even further? Of course if you're balding or fat you shouldn't be going clubbing even if you're 21. Does this seem like a good itinerary? Is it feasible for me to take ferries until I reach Tallinn, and then take trains or busses?
Also talk about your experiences in these cities. I'm still young and would like to meet people and have fun nights out. I've heard that Helsinki is "boring" but I don't care, I want to see it anyway.
4 nights Stockholm
2 nights Visby
2 nights Helsinki
3 nights Tallin
3 nights Riga
2 nights Vilnius I need to know exactly how the interior of this building looks like, its Number #10

who'd I miss Im trying to decide where to go for July and August and also deciding if I want more of an adventure or to just chill
So far im thinking a bike tour in Europe. But also wondering about just finding a town with cheap campsites and stay there for weeks and go on bike rides and chill. But im also considering going to the Balkans or Asia or something
Id prefer to not spend too much $
Anyone got any other comfy ideas for some summer trips? I've lived in the Sonoran Desert almost all my life, and, while I really enjoy it, I find something very appealing about the English and Scottish countryside. I got my passport recently and after a short trip to Mexico I'd like to visit the UK. I'll probably take a few days in London to see the checkbox tourist stuff but I really just want to rent a car or camper and tour the countryside. I know compared to a lot of stuff on this board it sounds lame, but I'm pretty easy to please so I think I'll enjoy visiting smaller towns, camping, homestays, nature, etc. Any spots Brit anons would recommend visiting? Bros, actually, ACTUALLY, no bullshit, if I were to visit places like North Korea, Iran or Syria would I run any risk of getting my US visa revoked? I know other countries like Israel take issue but in general should I leave this countries for when I'm much older and don't much care if I get banned from places or should I go now that I'm young? I really do want to visit these places someday. Other bucket list destinations include Yemen, Sudan, Libya and Haiti.
>inb4 you will die
Don't worry about that, my latinx instincts will keep me alive I'm planning a two week trip with my gf in October. Where should I go? Some places I'm considering are Greece, Japan, Argentina, Peru, and Brazil. Any place I should prioritize? Can I do a week in Peru and a week in Brazil or are two weeks ideal for each place? I'll be going to picrel for two weeks. Any advice? I don't care about pussy at all.
Alright boys my gf and I are going to Spain in a month for 8 nights. I found tickets for $400 each direct to Barcelona from USA (that's why we're going to Spain and not somewhere else). I haven't left the country since I was a kid and basically I'm retarded. Have to at least figure out which days we'll sleep in which city with tentative lodging and I need to have it figured out this week because I just have to ok. Also I've been to southern France and it was nice (ha) and I have no qualms with using Barcelona purely as an airport and spending most of our time in France. Factors in favor of Spain are cheaper food/lodging, my gf is fluent in Spanish, and neither of us have been. Basically it'd be cooler to do Spain unless you guys tell me it's a shithole compared to France.
Big question is should we rent a car. I like driving and would enjoy driving a manual SEAT shitbox but I also like trains and it'd be nice to avoid parking and dealing with the rental. But I also don't want to spend a bunch of money on rideshare. We're also in good enough shape to walk a fuckload and are not bringing checked luggage.
I like
>old historical buildings, ruins, forts, maybe some catacombs??
>trying new and strange foods
>exploring cities on foot/public transport
She will want to
>go to the beach once or twice
>maybe go hiking once or twice
She's super easy to please and will be happy with whatever. I don't drink alcohol (had to stop) or even caffeine so I'm not interested in any kind of nightlife and don't want to be harassed by lunchtime rowdies. She'll probably have a glass of wine with dinner a few times but she's no connoisseur. What am in for? Im planning to travel to the US to stay at my aunts place for the summer but my mom and the redditors keep saying that immigration is really strict now under Trump and i'll get detained and imprisoned at the border. I'm a 38 yr old neet btw but im starting to get my life back on track, not sure if that matters. is really a bad idea to travel to the US in these troubled times? Does learning the language of your destination improve your experience? Like beyond basic phrases. I took three weeks in December off at the beginning of this year when I was single planning to go backpacking through South America. However I now have a girlfriend and don't wanna be away from her for that long.
She is able to take one of those three weeks off, and we'd like to go to the Caribbean. She wants to rot on a beach, but I'd like to have at least some sort of history, culture, food etc. What's the best place we could go?
Preferably not insanely expensive. ChatGPT suggests Puerto Rico (I've already been there), Dominican Republic, or Cartagena, but open to suggestions.
im still alive, as i stated before "i have been fleeing the states and been on the run since 014 i owe them alot of money i decided to make a run for it that was the worst decision of my life if they find me it doesnt matter if i pay them or not they gave me a chance and i ruined it if they find me im dead" this is also a update on the situation, i feel comfortable enough to share my name now, my name is eric, and since people dont know what im running from, its a cartel i dont know how im still alive i just didnt have the money, i owed them way to much, infact, way more then just a few hundred dollars. that is pretty much it as nothing that crazy has happened today and i decided to provide a little bit more personal information in this since the other guy couldnt really give more recommendations (if its not enough information will give more tomorrow if needed) and im also thinking about fleeing to france or talking to the fbi about it but that may make the situation worse so maybe fleeing to france is my last option, if anyone is reading this help. Have you ever just picked a small rural town and traveled to it for a week to live the life? Ideally not a tourist town/ one next to giant parks for instance. Australian cities are consistently rated the best and most livable cities in Earth's history
What makes them so great compared to other cities? What is the most generic, soulless, identity-less copypasted strip mall wasteland city in the US and why is it Indianapolis? How do hotels make their towels so fucking great? They are like 10 times faster than regular towels at drying and they absorb water like crazy.
I've tried multiple different towel types including bullshit like "PREMIUM HOTEL QUALITY TOWELS 100% COTTON" and they're nowhere near as good as towels in a random 3-star hotel. Is it not the towel itself, but something they do to it? How the FUCK do I make my towels like the hotel ones? Do any of you travel so badly others cringe at how bad you traveling? Travelling to Europe next month /trv/. How do I prevent gypsies from stealing my shit? how do you meet people?
(except from dating apps, staying in a hostel, attend tours, being a woman)
how and where do you usually strike up a conversation? show interest without a being pushy annoying foreigner? im not autistic and generally interesting to talk to
How do i reconcile my interest in travel with my desire for contemplative life? Throughout the years i collected so many books, got interested in so many reasoning systems, that now i can spend years just not leaving my house and reading my wishlist. At my best moments, when not straying away from the way i got lot of subtle pleasure from quiet contemplation of world and God through the dialogue with all these great thinkers, it also increases enjoyment of travel enormously if i have sufficient historical or relligious context to know exactly what i am looking at and why i am looking at it. On the other hands its hard to move books across the countries too often (i have kindle but reading from it has its own issues). I imagine after years that subtle enjoyment may get turned into bitterness about coping and wasting my life if i get too complacement, too comfortable. I dream about fulfilling spiritual and intellectual journeys - where can i find it?
Any monasteries, temples, retreats where you yourself have found the peace you looked for?
I am 30 that year and my desire for hedonistic desire is slowly waning away but there are some crumbs left in me. In following travel destinations i have to reconcile it with deeper, spiritual desires ("there has to be more to life") Have you ever done month+ long stays in an airbnb? Seems way cheaper than extended stay hotels, only potential downside is possibly sharing the house with people. This is the OFFICIAL California thread for the board! Post cruise line recommendations, experiences, tips, what to avoid, favorite routes, best times to sail, etc. i have been fleeing the states and been on the run since 014 i owe them alot of money i decided to make a run for it that was the worst decision of my life if they find me it doesnt matter if i pay them or not they gave me a chance and i ruined it if they find me im dead please god whoever is reading this please give recommendations i cannot stay like this forever what is there even to do here? your thoughts on french people during your trip in france? In your travels what spots have seemed to have a perfect scenic views that aren't like anything you seen at home? For those of you that have lived in the United States and traveled a lot, what's your opinion on the United States? If given a choice, would you still choose to live there?
I know it's a large place and it can vary greatly depending on the region. I'm from Oregon and I'm fully booked (hotel, airfare, rental car) for a quick (week-long) scottish getaway this upcoming October
I'm considering moving there because I'm tired of the rat race in the corporate hellhole that is the good ole USA
I know jobs are scarce and I'm going against the grain of young people moving away. But I'm nay young and I've a tidy sum saved up
Chatgpt tells me I can live somewhat comfortably in suburban Glasgow for like 2.8k usd/month
Is this true? what am I in for? "i have been fleeing the states and been on the run since 014 i owe them alot of money i decided to make a run for it that was the worst decision of my life if they find me it doesnt matter if i pay them or not they gave me a chance and i ruined it if they find me im dead" no one replied, no one cares anymore. i swear they get closer and closer i might just have to flee to france thats the only way out as of now. if you have any better ideas please tell me. im also gonna have to get a job now because i dont have enough to travel to france will update soon if im not dead. What are some things to do or see in Dallas Texas? Especially ones connected to the DART train system which I want to explore what are your tips for Bolivia? >Are you sassing me son?
How do you respond when out of state and you say the wrong thing to a cop? Miami, any good or a cesspool? I like getting high in parks listening to music and riding bicycles. is visiting the Netherlands a good place for that? If so where should I go? How easy is bringing your own bicycle? Whats a good bike to rent? What should I know as someone from as a legal state on cannabis laws in Netherlands? Are there any international travel vloggers that you enjoy? I think they give me great ideas on what places to visit next.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ZaW0a4bZ9s where to go on my next bikepacking trip? my short list is:
-beijing to hanoi
-malaysia to bali (continuing on from old trip I did to KL)
-Lisbon to Turkey >food you like
>underrated places
>things to do
>living in vietnam situation Hello, with all these water gun fights and protests I want to see what I as a tourist can do to blend in and defend myself. Is the nerf supersoaker shotgun suitable? What exactly happens in Spain and Iceland? So fkn tired of them. Went to the maldives and they were all over me. Applied DEET and wore long white linnen pants and the fuckers still got to me.
I know Iceland doesnt have them but I talking about a nice beach vacation on a beautiful island or something along those lines. My friend got Dengue fever on Bali a few years back and he swore never to visit SEA again because of the trauma sustained. I got most shots for these types of diseases but its still annoying.. >Lakeview Ave
>Is next to a lake I want to travel to France for a month or two. My interests are very simple, walking around, museums, architecture, local culture just seeing the vibe. Are there any regions or cities of France Belgium and Luxembourg that aren't full of immigrants that have some French charm? Imagine a place where as soon as you step off the plane, decades of western propaganda is instantly proven wrong.
It happened so fast... So I was thinking on going for 4-5 days in mid September.
I've been to Iceland and it was absolutely awesome, I think I might get a similar vibe there.
Any opinions are welcome. Curious to see which state you would live in if you could work remote As in, if you have $4k/month in passive income and want to feel really rich with that, where do you go? Southeast Asia, Africa, South America, South Asia, Eastern Europe? Why? as i stated before "i have been fleeing the states and been on the run since 014 i owe them alot of money i decided to make a run for it that was the worst decision of my life if they find me it doesnt matter if i pay them or not they gave me a chance and i ruined it if they find me im dead" no one helped, im a little bit calmed down as of now but sometimes when i go to sleep i feel like i wont wake up the next day i also sometimes feel like they are closer then i think, this is also a update on the situation (and i will try to update everyday if i dont update im probably dead). yes, i have changed motels. yes, im in NM. yes, i must admit i have done some things i regret doing in 014. that is pretty much it as nothing that crazy has happened today (as of now) if something happens i will do a early update on the situation, but please god if anyone is reading this please give recommendations i cannot live like this forever. I am looking for two things:
A GPS app that is offline (no ads, I'll gladly pay for it)
A travel app that shows me places of interest along the route, and at my destination.
US. Was walking today through the Carpathians in Poland, a brown bear walked out 5 metres from us. We locked eyes for 2 seconds or so, and me and my gf turned and walked away...
Never been so scared in my life.
I thougt it was a big dog (presumably with an owner) when I saw the dark hair move through the grasses in front of us.
Funnily, we walked into 7 women on the walk down. Told them we saw a bear, and their group split in 2 as to whether to continue or not. When they decided to fuck off back down, the alpha female gave us a firework. We decided to go back up, holding kebab skewers, a firework, a bottle of vodka, and drum'n'bass on the bluetooth speaker.
Passing through that area was the scariest moment of my life. Me and my gf just loudly chat shit to each other like psychopaths, expecting to die at every moment.
Any other /beast/ stories?
Some other anon elsewhere on /trv/ was saying Bratislava was like the US in the 2000s.
Well, what are some other examples?
- Tajikistan is like pre-revolution Iran / Persia in that being part of the USSR helped shield it from the religious revolutions and theocracy that have plagued main Iran; its language is very close to Persian / Farsi.
- Taiwan is sort of like "China if the Communists lost", but sort of isn't since it feels refreshing and modern rather than some old relic.
- Japan is obviously not China, and you'd have to be pretty retarded to mistake one for the other for over a day... but people say they've preserved a lot of Tang dynasty-style architecture in their temples, etc. Even their language, while not a direct sibling to Chinese, preserves many etymologically Chinese phrases whose Chinese cognates would sound archaic.
- Poland and Hungary echo Germany before it went woke, and have more, er, homogenous populations (though not entirely 100%).
- Finland and the Baltics are great places to see Russian-styled architecture if travel to Russia or (((Ukraine))) is presently unfeasible.
- Croatia is like the coastal parts of Italy before bad tourists started ruining it.
- Montenegro, Bosnia, and Albania (pictured) are like the coastal parts of Croatia before bad tourists started ruining it (the latter two are Muslim-majority countries, but apparently they're more based than western Euro countries currently being overrun with muzzies like France and Germany?).
- Miami is sort of like pre-revolution Cuba and has a large exiled Cuban population, though it's still obviously in America (but nevertheless, large parts of the city are Spanish-monolingual).
- This is sort of cheating since it's in the same country, but parts of the Great Plains and Mountain West (e.g. ID and SD) are said to resemble the 90s-2000s US in culture and lifestyle.
- Argentina and Chile are apparently great places to be if you're a white supremacist - think a European country but colder. one day i would love to travel to littleton. how is the nature? when does it snow most? when is it really best to travel there? id love to travel to littleton in april. how is the flight/ cost? :) Hi retards i have ten thousand to blow should i blow on relaxing beach destinations like the carribeans maldive philippines or cultural centres like paris prague leningrad If you planned to go from Europe to Asia, flying over the mpiddle east, you might want to reconsider. Is there anything i need to know before travelling to lithuania? are germans truly the superior tourists? Trying to avoid the most congested places like Acadia national Park, kancamagus highway etc. Want to go deeper into Vermont / New Hampshire /Maine with no crowds but beautiful scenery and foliage.
I'm traveling to Japan for the first time in August and while drafting my itinerary I face a dilemma: do I play it safe with my limited time of two weeks and hit Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka, or do I for a portion of my trip go off to lesser known places? More specifically I had the idea of replacing the Osaka segment with a few days in Matsue and Izumo. This would add about 6 hours of transit time to my trip.
Does it really make me more of a "real traveler" if I go see 2nd tier shrines and castles in 2nd tier cities instead of going to the famous ones that everyone else is seeing? Or perhaps being a real traveler means foregoing sightseeing entirely to go wander random neighborhoods and "live like a local?"
But I doubt I can gain any deep cultural understanding of a foreign land without speaking the language or knowing anyone there. At that point I'd just be doing mundane stuff in place, Japan instead of place, USA. There is the more tangible benefit of avoiding crowds, but is it really worth foregoing the popular places? They are popular for a reason after all. And maybe seeing Matsue castle and Izumo shrine will be a bit of a letdown if I also see Himeji castle and the many shrines of Kyoto on the same trip.
Another idea I had that was more tame was to add a Sekigahara day trip to my itinerary while still following the traditional Tokyo-Kyoto-Osaka circuit. Have any anons been there who can confirm whether it's worth a visit or not? I think it could be cool but it also could just wind up as a day wandering some random fields with little context.
