This is Nobuo's peak of the classic era, he kinda regresses in VI desu; not a sleight against VI, it's just not as impactful outside of opera/D&S

That last one has such a high that it's hard to ignore, let's get something straight.
II's soundtrack is amazing but I'm biased. I'd stab you for hating II.
III is alright, kinda mediocre in comparison, like IV it only has good battle themes, kurayaminokumo is a high point but still not the best is it, but you know what III has, III has the gut punch in eternal wind, probably the best classic era song hands down that's soulful, upbeat, inspiring but still reserved and it's hardly surprising that Nobuo learned to abuse leitmotif here and why we saw suckem do the same in ShB.
Anyway, EW being more reserved is good because it told nobuo he could tone it down, scale back and he did, when we got to V we saw that leitmotif approach return and we got a staggering brilliant one that has two fantastic ballads.

That self assured confidence carries on with him beyond V. VI has a good soundtrack, not better than V but Uematsu really tried to scale back and where it works, it works. VII he found that good balance between hard and soft and while that game is ultimately kinda mid as the kid do say: the sound design is great. I'd say this sets the tone for Nobuo & FF's new age if he didn't throw that insanity at the wall in VIII and make that work too. IX he retreats back into his VI self but still manages to pump out some good, toned down pieces.
Without eternal wind & V's OST, we never get Aerith's theme, OWA, TMWTMG, V'A F or X's To Zanarkand or Otherworld. Nobuo never evolves into his 2nd and 3rd forms. We never reach Distant Worlds.
