No, I wouldn't give it the FF7R treatment.
It'd be a full blown reboot. New characters, new story, new everything.
XG has some really good ideas I'd shamelessly steal, but it'd be a whole new thing. XG is simply unsalvagable clusterfuck as it is.

I stopped playing XB1 after 15 hours after reaching the second colony(colony 6 I think, it's been a while).
Couldn't handle the endless and meaningless sidequests nor the auto-combat with Arts spamming but the worst was the plot itself.
It was so fucking predictable I thought I was weilding the Monad myself and seeing the future.
Maybe the game gets better later, but I normally drop boring games after 3 hours, yet I gave XB1 15 hours because how praised this game was.
15 hours it still feels like I'm in the tutorial I'm done, not just with XB1 but with the whole series and Takahashi himself.
