I played Oblivion back when it came out and it was cool at the time (the physics were entertaining) but has always seemed like the redheaded stepchild of the 3d elder scrolls games. I like Morrowind more because of nostalgia and it's dripping with sovl and atmosphere, even if is clunky and janky as fuck. Skyrim is better as a game and still looks decent, even if it is horribly dumbed down and simplified. Oblivion's just like, halfway in the middle between them. It was the first TES game primarily developed for consoles, and it shows. I just feel like the primary audience that still loves it are a certain type of late millennial/early zoomer who were young enough that it was their first TES game, probably played it on x-box but maybe had a hand-me-down PC at the time.

I replayed and finished Oblivion for the first time like a year or two ago. It's ~~alright, with light and conservative modding to round out some edges~~. I had fun and don't regret sinking time into it, but I would probably never play it again, while I could see myself playing Morrowind or Skyrim again. Remaster will definitely be a "wait for a sale and for mod support to get ironed out" for me
