Etrian games are pretty well balanced such that spamming basic attacks won't let you win (assuming you're not grinding excessively or playing on Easy mode). If you want to have fun with it, you could try running a disable party. Instead of a basic-ass melee frontliner, tank, and healer, try taking a binder to disable enemies and nullify their turns, a hexer/magus etc to inflict status ailments, and finally an offensive class that can capitalize on them. Going without a tank forces you to play more aggressively and bind/ail enemies before they get a chance to attack--when an enemy is asleep/paralyzed or tries to attack with a body part that has been bound, it skips their turn.

Binds are pretty interesting in that they work like Silence (ailment that disables magic) for specific physical attacks. For gorillas bind arms, for charging bulls bind legs, for snakes or anything that uses magic bind head (mouth), etc. Though it's not always clear-cut what you should bind based on the enemy's appearance alone, for example the Great Lynx in webm-related looks like it could attack with either claws or fangs, but the name of the attack it's using (Bite Off) makes it pretty obvious you should bind head. Binds also have other effects such as leg binds preventing enemies from dodging, which is great for certain encounters, and in later games arm/head binds also apply a flat reduction to the enemy's physical/magic attack, respectively.
