Erections can happen for all sorts of reasons, or no reason at all. The main cause comes down to excitement and blood flow/pressure. Sexual arousal or "perversion" doesn't have to be the cause, but it's understandable that you'd jump to that conclusion. And it's also understandable that he'd get defensive about the erection, given that you're best friends, and that you described your reaction as "I freaked out".

Regardless of the exact cause of the erection, or how honest he's being to you and to himself, here's the facts of the matter:
Yes, the erection was probably out of his control. And you are holding him exclusively responsible for his body's reaction to YOUR choice to be in prolonged physical contact with him. If he was aroused by you, he did not choose to be. Not in that situation.

Did you ask him if it was okay to lean on him for a nap, or did you just do it? Did you ever ask him about his comfort before physical contact in the past, or did you just do it? Did you ask once, and then keep doing it because he never said to stop, or that he was uncomfortable?
