Worst thing I’ve ever been through in my life up to this point. Lost my mom.

>What was it like?
It was like something reached into parts of me I forgot I had, and tore my fucking heart out abruptly. Like getting a void punched into my chest.

>How did it affect you?
I lost a big part of me. I’m 50% of mom, and she was always a cornerstone to my life. That cornerstone collapsed, and I’m what’s left of her.

It hurt bad when she rapidly deteriorated, and when she died, it was surreal like a calm before a storm, felt nothing but numbness and this empty vacant mindedness. Then when I opened up the door to my family home after returning from the hospital, noticing my mom wasn’t there, realising her dead body was still at the hospital ward, then it hit me like 10,000 tons. Broke down hard, felt like someone broke all of my bones at once emotionally. Whole night I spent in deep sorrow and grief until I tired myself out.

Each day was hard, it got less hard and less hard. I still miss her a lot. I think of her from time to time. You never get over it. Things in life kick it up. When I got married, she wasn’t there to see me take my bride. I just became a dad recently, i can’t tell her that she’s going to be a grandma. Shit like that brings the pain and loss back.

Overtime you learn to appreciate it though, the pain and loss. Cuz its at least something you have left from them, a connection.
