There are concepts like a conflict of interest and corruption risk. A man supposedly (nobody knows because all actions seem extralegal) making decisions about government money allocation while benefiting from government money allocation is clearly in a position where he has a conflict of interest.

At least in the old days when billionaires bought politicians they had the common decency to obfuscate it through middlemen and not prance around in the White House in a tshirt.

The second and much more important conflict of interest comes from the fact that Tesla revenues are very dependent on China. What happens when the communist party exerts pressure on him to make certain decisions? Will he choose in favor of his life's work? Will he choose in favor of the American public? Why would anyone put him in a position where we have to find out?
