The elites are undergoing a massive issue with intelligence that they've never had to deal with before, and I mean that in the strictest individualistic sense.

The elites in our society are not physiologically different than the general population, and if you look at the general population it breaks into something like:
>5% genius
>10% above average or near-genius
>15% "old average" (what used to be considered "average intelligence" but is now considered intelligent)
>20% new average or stupid
>40% below average or very unintelligent and/or uninformed
>10% extraordinarily stupid

This is despite (and perhaps because of) massive technological advances and general improvements to health. Additionally, lack of "want" or the attainment of all one needs tends to exacerbate these problems, meaning that the less desire one has to improve intellectually the more likely the mind is to fall into the lower intelligence camps throughout development. Necessity often drives intelligence in all but genetic cases, and even genetics are subverted when the person in question is waited on hand and foot during development.

So the elites are now in a scenario where the above percentages are actually LOWER for them than the general population. Their tests won't show that of course, even Donald Trump got "A's" while in college. But that's because the elites are afforded advantages for things like grades, because they are REQUIRED in their society to be performing at "top levels." But they truly aren't, they just have enough money to lower the ceiling for themselves and their prodigy.

So now you have a situation that, when adjusted for objectivity, looks more like this to the elite class:
>1% genius
>4% above average or near-genius
>10% "old average"
>25% new average or stupid
>45% below average or very unintelligent and/or uninformed
>15% extraordinarily stupid

And they all believe they're "genius" level intellect (or for the more self-aware, at least "near-genius").
