I started making it the Turkish way.

>use frying pan
>heat up oil
>fry the onions for a sec
>add in rice and stir
>wait for rice to slightly change colour
>slowly add in 2x amount of water as you added rice (i.e. 1x cup of rice = 2x cup of water)
>try to add the water slowly enough to keep the boil rolling
>add in a stock cube
>crush and stir it until its all dissolved
>cover
>wait like 15 minutes on low heat

Never burns, ever, and you get very nicely flavoured rice. Towards the end you can also add in other things like tuna, or veges or whatever.
