They're not doing as well as you seem to be implying. The parks are keeping the company afloat, but again, their stocks keep falling. Disney has made a series of very expensive very bad investments.

Read what I've said. I've never said that Hirsch was saving all of Disney (he isn't), but they are more than happy to work with him because GF was a successful show and they want to invest in more successes. Why else would they have bothered with The Book of Bill 16 years after the show premiered and still maintain a relationship with Hirsch?

While all these parts (parks, animated films, DTVA, etc) kick money up to the overarching Disney company, they each operate pseudo independently as well. DTVA failing would not mean the end of Disney, but it could mean the end of DTVA (which is a very real threat). Having a major success of a show won't make or break the corporation, depending on how precarious things are (and at the moment, that is "very") it could make or break that specific division. A division can only be unprofitable for so long before the corporation decides to pull the plug.
