All fiction is the same tried tropes all over again but anime has plenty of stuff that isn't that. Plenty of anime that use character traits that you barely even find in cartoons. Name a cartoon that does a Spike-like character efficiently.

And yet you have anime like Ping Pong, Lotgh or Haibane Renmei with more depth than any cartoon.

Wrong, someone like Noriko Hidaka has fantastic voice acting. Once again the average anime is not better than the average cartoon or the average book or vidya etc. But the best of anime absolutely "mogs" cartoon.

Wrong as well, most kodomo are extremely cartoony. I will give you 1 thing though, the best thing about cartoons. The comedy slapstick stuff, especially the old shorts are the best thing about cartoons and the one genre where they are better than anime. Everywhere else they come short.
