The point of my post was more a nitpick that "wasted potential" is a meaningless phrase when it can be applied to so many characters. I could call practically anyone "wasted potential" because a good writer could make someone interesting.

Sure, absolutely, no where did I disagree with that, aesthetic is important.

But okay sure, lets talk Harley. Harley is a good representation of the hollowness of some characters and why pumping up Punchline won't help. Her first appearance was her best appearance in the cartoon. Every subsequent appearance was lesser, until they had to make her an anti hero and appeal to various specific audiences. The aesthetic, the attitude, the plot, all from her initial appearance, sustained her to a point, didn't it? Then they tried different directions but so much of it doesn't capture people. But her aesthetic appeals and keeps a light general audience as well as the more niche one.

The difference is, Punchline was not in a fantastic cartoon, Punchline felt more like a gimmick to sell variant covers to whale consumers. Punchline felt more hollow. Sure, someone could come along and do something with the character and maybe build something up, but like I said, we could say that about a lot of characters.

I think Yara and Punchline having a bunch of people online, especially coomers, talking about them gives them an inflated audience when in reality it is still a niche of a niche.
