Do you actually want to know the reason? Like for real? They decide on a bunch of this stuff via metrics and Google searches. Knull was pushed hard in the Cates events stuff attached to Venom. Those books got published, omnis got made and pushed hard as an origin for symbiotes. There is a reason why the MCU also pulls from modern shit (as well as the politics of it). They take, search optics as equalling some popularity or something so gloss over 90% of a characters history to do modern shit like that.

Sony tried to make a Spiderverse with Amazing Spider-Man films. In Amazing Spider-Man 2 you literally had a room with all the villain gimmicks in it (pic related), every villain was just gonna be a Oscorp goon essentially. They wanted to make a bunch of spin offs, from Black Cat/Silver Sable to Venom to Sinister Six. Then 2 didn't do the numbers they needed and they scrapped it. (Worth noting that they did ask for Oscorp Tower to be in Avengers and Avengers tower to be in Amazing Spider-Man 1 as an easter egg, this didn't happen).

Years later they tried again and Venom did enough numbers to convince them they could try again, so they debated making enough villains to do Sinister Six attempt #2 or make their own Spiderverse tangentially MCU connected. Then Morbius, Kraven, Madame Web all flopped. So they gave up again.
