You're better off in my opinion just stapling vapor barrier on the other side with a hammer tacker. The cheapest non-code plastic film is like $10 for a 9'x100' roll. Making tape won't hold much on painted wood, and it might just fly off with the gust of air from the sprayer. Even less work if you can have a helper, like a family member: have him or her walk along the other side and hold a large panel, whether it's a scrap piece of plywood or a bunch of real estate signs attached together. You just want the overspray not to fly off. As soon as it is disturbed by something in its path, it falls off very quickly and will not go far. Obviously wear work clothes as you and your buddy will get some overspray.
