You're not planning on using those trees as the posts too are you? Unless they are cedar they will rot in record time. If you're just going to use them as the cross pieces you might get away with it. Probably still end up with termites and other bugs eating them eventually.

Best way to attach them to the upright posts will be 9 gauge mild steel wire. Double it up, twist it up nice and tight with some fencing pliers (not too tight or it will break) and then on the sides where you didn't tie it off twist each strand together to make a braided wire using your fencing pliers to start the twist and then finishing off with a flat head screwdriver or tapered punch. This will help tighten everything up real nice.

I'll try and take a pic of some panels tied to railroad ties with this method.
