no, but i've repaired my chimney before. you need to use a certain mortar or you're gonna fuck your bricks up. if memory serves, i used type n mortar. "cement" is a pretty ambiguous term, anon. it's not like people haven't been using it for eons.

what does that even mean? you do understand cement has always been readily available, right? do you just mean the type of cement we use in modern times? well we have access to modern cement and old types of cements, too. all you need is some mature lime putty and you can make a great cement. i personally wouldn't do a normal brick chimney by myself. i would 100% go with a steel pipe chimney. something that's going to be easy to clean and maintain. brick chimneys are something special and that means a shit ton of maintenance. you don't want to fuck around with the chimney, anon. some winter night in the future you're gonna leave the house to get more beer and one of your bricks is gonna pop out and embers are gonna pour through the hole and bounce around in your crawlspace and light your house on fire and you're gonna come back to a dead family. do you want that? think about it.
