It's constant work and most people end up giving up after a few years for a reason. It means things breaking with no easy replacements nearby, and getting up early regardless of weather or health. "If you can't afford the vet then don't get the pet" applies to livestock, and you'll also be hiring a farrier for anything with hooves, especially if you don't default grass pasture your animals. Keeping cows requires more than one person. You cannot do dairy solo. If you want to be self-sufficient, surviving on self-grown food only sounds like a great idea on paper until your first weather fiasco, or pest outbreak, or deer herd finding your vegetables, and now you're down a season of crop and need to slink into town.

This is assuming you get land you can use in the first place. Do you have full rights to everything on the lot, wood, water, minerals? Are you allowed to actually build a house or keep animals on it? Does it have road access, or do you have to cut across your neighbors' land in a truck to get there? Can you get utilities hooked up? If you go that route, do you have continuing income to pay for it and not mind that your water or internet may be shit? If not, are you confident enough in the local water supply/rainfall to sustain you, and be managed with your filtration knowledge?

The absolute best redpill would be to find a few farms or ranches to live and work on for a while. If you're in burgerland, there's a bunch around that offer people live-in experience in a co-op house kind of deal so they can get a taste of the country and farm work without actually having to own anything. Work on these places. Talk with the owners, ask them questions, and make sure you don't leave out any potential negatives. I see way more people quit country life and homesteading than keep at it.
