Butane contains more energy by volume, less by mass. The cleanliness of the burn depends on how they're burned. Both can burn completely. The practical difference here is that propane is more volatile, so it needs a (somewhat) high-pressure tank to store at room temperature, and propane can evaporate in the winter.

All decently-engineered power plants completely burn their fuel. All hydrocarbon fuels are exactly the same in this regard. Similar to the above, methane contains less energy by volume and more by mass than the previous fuels, and it is more volatile than both, to the point that it can't be liquefied at room temperature. It's therefore distributed as a gas through pipes, or as a cryogenic liquid.

It's a complex mix of different chain lengths and shapes (some rings and branches) that averages about 7-8, along with a variety of other chemicals.

"High octane" gasoline has a high octane rating, which is a measure of a fuel's resistance to auto-ignition from compression (relative to a particular isomer of octane). Gasoline engines use spark plugs to ignite the fuel at a particular point in the compression stroke, so premature ignition would be a problem. But higher compression allows the extraction of more energy from a fuel. High octane gas can handle higher compression ratios, and therefore be used in engines with higher compression ratios (and therefore performance). It doesn't contain more energy than a similar lower-octane gas, and it has no performance advantage in a low-compression engine.
