Because as a long time renter that has shut down every landlord that tried some shit like this I can tell you that if you are in the US and you have been renting more than six months and not doing anything unusual with the countertop and you gave it a good scrub down then you don't owe the landlord jack shit
He can pay out of pocket to wash it

I recommend you consult a countertop salesman for "how long on average before it looks like this" and if his timeline matches up with your counters time in use at the same rental then you can fuck him if he tries to take you to court for it.
A judge will dismiss his case and you can sue him for attempted extortion in violation of his responsibilities per tenancy laws in your state

I just see a used countertop, it's landlords job to change the carpet every six months to a year, get himself new toilets if he wants one, and pay for his own property value raising countertop

You signed a rent contract with him, you didn't agree or sign a contract to pay for his remodeling
Unless you can show me some real damage YOU caused then I say tell the landlord it's not your responsibility as it falls under legal "wear and tear"
Worst he can do is try to keep the deposit but then since you already have photos of the undamaged, used countertop you can take him to small claims if he does
