Completely honest answer (keep in mind I am not a hobbyist)
dialed in nutrition, sleep and steroids (trt & low dose mast)-that's really the only way to train 2-3hrs a day and maintain a job without burning out. I lift 3-4x a week at night and train BJJ in the morning- the combo of roids and proper nutrition have me recovering perfectly. And will have anyone recovering perfectly for that matter.
If you are just looking to be a hobbyist have some fun and get into the self defense aspect training a few times a week won't fatigue you- just eat and sleep properly. If you want to take it to the extreme and compete etc do what I do lol.

You can do any martial art and have it be effective to some degree no matter your body type. Short is not ideal but your proportions will have you fit in a certain weight class where you won't be outmatched and if you're trained and worried about self defense you can most likely defend yourself against an untrained person who is larger (most the time)
