Do the body fat thing, multiply your pounds of fat by 22, that is your max healthy daily deficit, and you should not exceed it, then calculate your actual maintenance caloric needs and aim for something between the maintenance and the maintenance minus max deficit, if you can't handle being near max deficit don't stress over it, the important thing is to be in deficit you can actually sustain, even if it takes more time. How you break your calories per day does not matter, what matters is the daily total, you can do even split, you can do smaller and bigger meals if you feel more hungry some times of the day, it's up to you really, just don't go over your daily max intake.
