My hypothesis — these were women that refused to betray their men, husbands/companions, for the aristocracy & clergy.

The rest of the women either accepted collaborationism or a shy part managed to avoid the ordeal altogether.
Now... we're here, women liking the “bad boys” because her epigenetic configuration comes from a long line, from the starting point when some ancestor grandmother of hers chose the lord (aristocracy) or the lord (clergy), and ditching her man/companion.
