The trick is realizing it's about having the power to say what is/isn't evil. Some view this as militaristic power, so you have a conquering god. Some view this as an intellectual power, so you have a gnostic god. "Evil" is a moral adjective that presumes you have rules to follow, but "following rules" is what you do when you don't have control or power. When you have power, you are no longer following rules and are instead creating them. Thus, in any true religious system, the dichotomy is not between good and bad, but between powerful and powerless. In the gnostic sense, this is between truth and untruth. In the conquering god sense, this is between strength and weakness. In whatever schema, it's a measure of power. The concept of "god" is power. Do you want to be a follower, or do view yourself to be endowed with the same stuff as gods?
