None of them read what Haig said because barely any of them read at all. As I said earlier the official historian himself (James Edmonds) said that he believed that as high as 95% of the British Officer Corps never even read a single Military book in their lives. So if your average Officer at the time read fuck all, how much would your average Soldier be reading? I'm willing to bet it would be even less than 95%.
So yes the average Tommy didn't read the Official History because he didn't read or didn't know how to.
