Glad to know that the US and Russia are not great powers in the world because they don't have kings with a lot of authority. The power of a king =/= Great power status of a state. GB didn't stop being a great power because its king didn't have as much authority as Frances

This applies to literally every single medieval state. Even small ones
They were a great power because they had the ability to influence their neighbors and resist influence. Until they didn't, which is when they stopped being a great power. And that was the result of internal strife, not just foreign dominance.
