The general thread for Manga / manga-styled comic-making, manga-style illustration and related comic work. That said, everyone is welcome here.
Support each other and talk about your work or the work of others that excites you. Inking, character design, paneling / layout, writing, planning, and other discussions are all welcome.
Post resources, questions, in-progress pages, breakdowns of other works, etc. If a work is not yours, credit the maker (unless it's fucking obvious like a full page of One Piece or something).
Thanks to everyone for making /mmg/ a level-headed and helpful place. Remember, drawing and making comics and manga are difficult endeavors, and we're all in this struggle together.

>Don’t copy recklessly. Use construction, color theory, and other fundamental concepts to rehearse a drawing process that you can later easily manipulate for original artwork.
>Post all of your anime studies. Post even when you’re told not to. Create an art community that actually draws and improves together instead of just talking about it.

Why?
uhm hi, I’ve been drawing stuff like this since 2021, and I mainly focus on digital art i did on apps like ibis paint or ms paint. Most of my work is of 90s male cartoon furry characters that I want to fuck or my husbandos, but I draw them in a adorable toony style that’s sort of my own spin on things. Lately, I’ve been feeling kind of stuck with a few aspects of my art, and I’d really appreciate some constructive feedback or tips from anyone willing to help.
One of the things I struggle with is the fucking shading and shadows. My drawings are usually in flat color, and whenever I try to add lighting or depth, it just looks too off. I’m not sure if I’m overthinking it or just missing something about how light works.
Also, I’ve noticed that my outlines sometimes look kind of deformed or wobbly not in a cool stylistic way, but more like they’re not structured enough. It’s frustrating because I can sort of see the style I want in my head, but I’m having trouble getting it down on the canvas.
Majority of my art is influenced by some other toony artists I’ve know online like minus8 for example, and that guy motivated me to post here and other rule 34 sites try to grow more seriously. If anyone has advice, resources, or just general thoughts, I’d love to hear it. arigatou Previous thread: >>7403910

And big thank you to all who participated in last month’s /icic/—it was very special collaboration.
Now let’s see what April has in store~ How do you make a drawing look the most "finished" in the least amount of steps? Is there a way to draw something, stop working on it early and be happy with the result, without spending days in the lineart, coloring, shading, and rendering hell??
I really need this man I'm never gonna progress if it takes me a week per drawing or more. It's the second biggest block to improvement I have (first is being a lazy fuck for years). This is her!! :3 She is an Ant and Bear Alien Cat thing! Despite all of the trolling, crabbing, etc. you guys have provided me resources and valuable critique that have helped me to become a better artist. I hate to say it but... I love you and the jannies too. LEt's get some haha's and hehe's up on here Seriously, why is the art of most creator-owned american comics generally so ugly? If you draw porn, how do you not get horny in the middle of drawing it? Or get horny by looking at your reference?
I know porn can literally be a motivation for lots of artists, but how do you actually focus on improving instead of lusting and masturbating in the middle of it?
Serious question. >intermediate artist-ack, cartoonist at best

Previous thread: >>7387614 Will aspiring to become an advanced/pro tier social media coom artist still be possible in the following years, or is Xitter so fucked up to the point the chance is pretty much gone permanently?
Bluesky is still niche and Pixiv/DA are chock full of AI shit and don't have the same amount of engagement pre-Musk Twitter could have given you if your skills and target audience hitted the right notes. >and then, windows did an random unannounced update, losing him 2 hours of rendering Dropping love bombs from heaven. What exactly makes the late 90s/2000s era shounen look so dinstinct?
Why is high int art so obviously distinguishable from high beg/low int?
I've lately been trying to draw more on my own and I'm getting some gains despite drawing 2 hours per day on average and still not doing much studies outside of trying to draw the occasional game portait or manga panel I like, yet my art is still obviously much worse and amateurish than plenty of old artist mutuals who have been at it more than me.
Doesn't help that I couldn't draw much at all during 2023/2024 due to big problems that fucked up my family, depression and me trying to find a job, thank goodness I'm trying to not skip a day now even if it's just a 30 minutes pencil sketch.
Look at this picture for example, my art on the left and an old mutual I still admire because I'm trying to push myself to grind thankfully thanks to him on the right. It is so obvious I'm the worse artists even despite the art styles being fairly different, not to mention he actually studied fundamentals and has considerably developed technical skills by now while I'm still planning out my grinding schedule. His drawing speed mogs me as well, doing imagination doodles that still shows fundies in just 30-60 seconds to 2 minutes obviously take considerable skill (I watch him drawing on picarto whatever I can and he does plenty of these).
Not all hope is lost and I hope to catch up, or even surpass him as I keep drawing more and more per day, will trying to draw more than he hypothetically does mindfully fill the skill gap quickly? He's only a few years older than me so it's better going fowards our 30 being good together than me still being autistic about it, though a few people also told me I'm really not that much far behind him. I think I got today lucky where I switched between left and right drawing modes in the middle of making all my assets for today.
So I decided to show you a little art lesson.
The diference between how the left side draws and how the right side draws. This took me actually a shit ton of time to actually learn to make this.
but pls rate.
:D Imagine how much will the faggots here actually would improve if they simply went and started to look up women IRL in some place where women gather, like a hospital, instead of trying to find a magical course and magical pixiv courses.
nurses are amazing to study because they can range from literal teen bodies to venus of fertility milfs. I don't give a shit about the art dogmas made after 1850.
It's a mental virus that has totally infected all the arts.
I was forced to self teach me using before XX century teachers in forgotten books in archive . org and ligben . is. After studying photos of diferent races IRL.
I designed this character as a way to practice racial phenotypes and because It fucks on purpose with AI tech.
lmao.
pls rate. Has anyone done low res pixel art, then used a SNES emulator upscaler filter, then did a quick paintover to fix some issues and bring up the quality?
I found the method is much much cheaper than doing an entire HD work from scratch and the result is not as terrible. Is there an equivalent YouTube channel or website or book to Cure Dolly for (digital) illustration that just cuts through all the bullshit and will tell me, simply, exactly what I need to do to get good You was drawing while 4cuck was down right anon? 1: Post a brief backstory if your OC has one.

Your choice. Honestly, just draw. Use what you have. But if you want, you can get it. You can do it digitally, but try to refrain from using ctrl+z and other features. At the end of the day though, do what you want. As long as you put the work you're gonna see progress.
>I'm /int/ (as if, pyw faggot), should I bother?
If you want to expand your range of subjects, I recommend it. It also covers a lot of fundies that doesn't hurt to revisit. I suggest you start with DS2 though.

Mess up a lot, get that mileage in, but most importantly pyw Kind of wondering what your opinions of the Modern art in 2022
A new weekly exercise/challenge for all anons of all levels.
Since this is the first thread, you can pick any theme, but in the future, 4 themes will be posted per thread and posters will be expected to pick one of them.
Today's themes are:
> Accident
> Hole
> Losing Control
> Hunger
Although 4-koma are mostly gag comic strips, feel free to test waters and try different genres.
If successful, this and every following thread will be archived. If you wish to link your socials for the archive, feel free to do so.
===
>What's the goal?
Initially my goal here is to consistently provide a simple looking exercise to myself and other anons. I strongly believe it's better to produce something simple rather than nothing, and 4-koma's format allows for a lot of experimentation.
In the future, I hope to experiment with other formats beyond 4-koma and maybe even organize an internal /ic/ contest, but it will of course depend on how these threads perform.
===
>What is a 4-koma?
It is a comic strip of four panels of equal size which normally uses the following format: Context / Goal / Conflict / Resolution. share art you find interesting. i mostly look at comic book stuff nowadays so that's what i'm likely to post, but any art you genuinely like goes here. Figure drawing is a fun and good way to get better at drawing humans.

Previous thread >>7477684 Where can I find resources on how to draw anthros exactly like this? General dedicated to posting and discussing art of either:
1. Manmade objects, vehicles, tool, weapons etc. (of any kind and any historical era, as long as they fall in the ballpark of "technology") and fictional derivatives of such
2. Objects, vehicles, creatures etc. that aesthetically fall into the visual space of mecha/robot/artificial/cybernetics etc. regardless of level of realism.
Helpful to mention the level of realism, if any, you are taking into account in the art. Been around the board a while and while I never did make it I can now do what I first came to this board to learn, how to draw the things I imagine. If you wanna do that post your work, let me know what you think is wrong with it and I'll try my best to draw a correction and answer any questions I can. Who exactly lays down /beg/traps and for what purpose? Please post artists who draw really good cats. Xitter is preferred, so I can download and study them. Also, post good art of KOTS.
I shall start. Pic related was by: https://x.com/shikaruneko/media?lang=en

No, they're not magnets or infohashes; they're just plain old URLs that have been encoded. We're doing this to keep bots and scripts from recognizing them as URLs and harvesting/reporting them. The recap posts at the top of the threads have GIFs or WEBMs explaining how to use them. Also, some of the encoded links *may* have multiple layers - like ogres ... or onions! Discuss brushes, artists, art styles, line methods, texturing, inking, shading and colouring
This thread is intended for artists who cannot paint. However, lineart with painting methods are welcomed
I've developed a very stunted "art style" and way of drawing due to ignoring fundamentals and master studies alongside procrastinating for months and just not drawing enough.
The problem now is that I can't just get rid of it and it shows strongly even when I try to draw something from reference or do an observational study. Everything I try to draw looks extremely flat, stiff and inaccurate. At least pure beginners don't have to worry because they don't have experience or clear things they want to draw constantly yet (most of them at least), I've been basically mastering symbol drawing all this time and I feel like I'm just not capable of perceiving intuitive form and 3d space due to this bad habit.
I'm looking to significantly improve both my general art quality and draftmanship while keeping productivity at a good pace and draw almost every day, the thing is, how do I get rid of a shitty build? How do I fix my core way of drawing things? Should I start from scratch again and not thinking about having a style before my observational skills are good enough? Do you ever draw on your shirts and wear it in public?
What would it be? Anyone else staying away from general social media and discord until they get good enough to show their art in public and gaining attention?
I'm a self-taught stuck in /beg/ hell btw, I just lurk Bluesky and a few other sites for looking at artists I like Should i move to negative space drawing or keep using contours Lets have a thread specifically for monsters and creatures.
Post your own work, post inspo, discuss designs... Once upon a time, stuck in a waiting room, I drew a random picture in a new sketchbook I brought to kill the time. It was a demon head, and then I thought of Why it was there. And spawned this story, taking a decade and 180 strips later it is only two thirds told.
It was very rough in the beginning, unplanned, unconceived,a haphazard journey that my sleepy mind oozed onto each page, and only after 30 strips in was taken seriously. And I watched the story grow.
I will share this with you all.
***DISCLAIMER***
These are "storyboards",never meant as Product, but wound up on my website because I had nothing else to upload. I will "translate" the chicken scratch wriwhere neccessary, and toss a few tidbits of facts for consideration. So,any and all crabs who decide to deride the story will be simply stating their retardation by doing so.
With that said, enjoy. Is this even worth it if you have the old one? the express keys on the top are kinda retarded, it will get in the way, aside from that nothing really seems like a major upgrade... what's /ic/ thoughs on this? Previous Thread: >>7437402

Enjoy! what makes a pose interesting and iconic? Why is the art scene in the West so shit compared to Japan? Here, I can't just find and apply for an assistant job. The art industry here is way too niche, there aren't hundreds or thousands of artists coming together to create something. Unless it's for video-games or some shit like that. How many of you have updated to v4? Is it even worth it? I've got the goyim pass but didn't notice any differences yet. I got a new, screen tablet, now my entire drawing setup is upside down. I can't just turn back and draw as I used to, so I'm going to make at least one draw a day until I get back in the game.
The goal is simple: Get used to the drawing tablet. Until then, I will climb my way back up one step at a time, even if it's just one doodle a day. Don't expect anything fancy, or crazy progress, for now I'm drawing solely to get comfortable, so this may take a while. I want to keep log of my progress and enjoy the journey too, so I'll be rambling about it as I learn and figure things out. Do you study all the time? Do you produce finished works which have zero (0) traction and get no response? Do you find other artists who draw in a similar style to you, with similar (or worse) quality, yet receive hundreds of times more engagement with each piece? Can nobody really tell you what exactly is objectively wrong with your art, beyond some random nitpicks?
If you answer yes to the above questions, then (YOU) might just be an artist born with low appeal!
Post your latest apprent snoozefest, your latest eye repellant, and whatever studies your doing in a futile attempt to try to brute force appeal by way of technical skill and accuracy (protip: ya can't). why does coom ruin and take away the soul of things? Any steps to make one's own artwork more honorary Japanese?
Why do they hide secret knowledge in their tutorials and courses?
Why do they laugh at Westerners trying to draw Japanese and don't want us to become competitors by learning their tricks?
To be fair most here deserve it but those of us who want to be honorary Japanese need to do something about the Western art problem. >legendary traditional artist goes digital
>art quality plummets
This has happened too many times now to be a coincidence >be freshman in college
>suddenly have to urge to learn drawing
>the methods doesn't seem to work and I still can't draw well after months of practice
Is there a point where it's genuinely fucking over? Or is it just because my learning methods suck? I'm programming a game in C for macrostyle purposes, but I think it has too much influence from tezukism... What do you think?
Anyway, why do the japs 'have a monopoly' on cuteness ????
https://files.catbox.moe/iuazti.webm >drawing from imagination is har... Ack!
Boomer Blaise winged this out from his fat boomer ass live, Proko sisters your response? I've heard plenty about Jack Kirby, Rob Liefeld, Todd Mcfarlane, etc, but these are old guys, who are the people currently working in the business?
Who are some western comic artists that post their art, wips, etc regularly on twitter and ideally also stream their art process, or atleast make youtube videos?
I don't care if they're Marvel, DC, or even a totally independent, I want to follow the western comics scene. what hashtags am I supposed to put in when I post my drawings on Instagram Can you really compete with people who have over 5-10 years of experience over you if you just draw 8 hours per day and grind very very often?
This only applies to self-taught and other people who have been drawing on and off for years but are still in beg zone, pre-begs don't apply Nobody is impressed by digital art after AI. We should've never abandoned traditional. This is from a book where you write about yourself by filling in answers to the questions. I was 11 years old and filled it out in 1981. The book asks you to draw a bird. The bird i drew had evil undertones. the interesting part is what i named it... did social media ruin your art? It’s that time of the year, anon. Show me your version of Kiki. What's a good typical daily practice routine for consistent gains? Art with an emphasis on landscapes, plants, animals, and mythical creatures are welcome!

Last: >>7544812 Hello my fellow wage slaves. I'm curious about what people on /ic/ do for a living while they still draw purely as a hobby on the side so I made this thread hoping it gains atleast a little traction and it would be a nice change of pace
Pic related is mine.
Current occupation is I work on an Oil Rig How do you pick one that reflects you but still sounds natural? Only time I've had nicknames is when people in my group gave them to me but I was always anonymous on the internet.
Prompts
>an object - A wooden ale mug overflowing with froth
>a character - a dead paladin
>a scene - a magic shop with a wide selection of cursed items
>a feeling - There's a tranquil feel to the place
>all together - All of the Above
I thought this would be a cool exercise for those looking to practice more with creativity/imagination drawing as well as just kinda fun to see everyone's unique interpretations when given the same subjects/prompts to work from that are a little more interesting then just
>draw this photo reference in your style
>draw this basic ass subject
I structured the prompts how i did to hopefully encourage anyone who wants to participate, regardless of skill, to have something to attempt. With each prompt ostensibly increasing in difficulty/complexity. From just a single simple object for those in utter beghell, all the way up to tackling them all at once for the more advanced artists. Tackle them all individually, mash together just the two or three prompts that really sparks your creativity, or go all out with all of them in a single piece, up to you to mash and bash the prompts how you see fit.
And while i said this is "imagination" training, use reference if you want or as needed, the point is to get into the habit of flexing your imagination muscle but you don't need to throw yourself into the deep end and force yourself to must use only imagination if you're not there yet. If you want to gamify it to get yourself to draw more, you could also give yourself "points" for each one completed and a x multiplier for combos etc. Is 80s/90s anime worth studying from? When making character concept sketches from a client's description, how many is too many?
Out of fear of rejection I do around 10 and make them way better than the average sketch, but that ends up taking me more time than doing a finished illustration + background.
Am I being paranoid for thinking that the client will just move on to another artist if I draw 2-3 concepts and he likes none of them? Thank you, for gifting this world with so much creativity.
Imagine the war within. While they were making these films.

quickposes.com/en Why hasnt CSP till these day made better perspective options for their 3D models, i can forgive the clunkyness of the models, but the ones from DesignDoll dont bend like they should and they feel like Stretch Armstrong wannabes, not to mention, ugly ass clipping of arms and legs.
Meanwhile CSP perspective options still only favorites arms and legs over butts. Welcome to /life/. Drawing from life is a great way to learn from and appreciate the world around you as a means to inspire your art. Many artists, most notably Kim Jung Gi, drew from life constantly, and talked about how beneficial it was to his art journey. So whether it’s someone on a bench, a fire extinguisher, or your own hand…if it’s drawn from life, post it here! Just a warning, i'm a retard, I am aware.
So are light and shadows in drawings that aren't hyperfocused on realism just mostly made up? There are still rules but in my head I imagine it that the artist has a rough outline of how light/shadows should work but all the actual finer details are just guessing or w/e, as long as it doesn't break his rough idea of how he wants the lightning to work in a scene. Do artists get away with what might be "unrealistic" lighting and shadows simply because our brain just can't tell? The better I get at drawing the less things I want to draw. I don't know what the point of this even is
>Draw your fantasy
It was more fun having it as a fantasy than actually drawing it out

Point of this post is, you never know who’s giving you feedback. Sometimes it’s a art master(rare because most masters don’t have time to sit on the compooper typing about every feedback work they see) and most and losers who can’t even follow there own advice about doing studies or fixing there doodie work
