>doing more studies doesn't guarantee any "improvement"
>even if your art "improves" in some technical sense, it doesn't mean you'll actually be any happier with it... nor does it mean other people will like it more - in fact, they might even like it LESS than your less refined earlier work
>whatever goal you aspire to reach might not even be attainable, and whatever "perfected" art you might one day achieve might not even be an art style that you yourself like
I envy people who justdrawmaxx and wind up liking their own work, producing things which other people like, and don't seem to have to fret over "improving." The fact that I was happier drawing as a beg, and hell my art was arguably even more popular then than it is now, just totally wrecks me. I can't even go back to drawing how I used to, because I don't remember how to make my drawings look so crude and warped, like intentionally fucking things up doesn't produce the same results as trying your best and just having things come out wrong. I see this in some other artists' work, where things are clearly distorted and wrong in ways which indicate lack of knowledge/care as opposed to intentional stylization, but they seem so happy with it, as do all their fans.
Sometimes I really wish I never actively tried to improve, I was happier with my art when I just drew whatever the fuck without being burdened with "knowledge" and was apparently on a better track to creating appealing art had I just kept on that path, but now it's too hard to go back, like trying to force yourself to shit in your pants. What the fuck happened to Sakimichan? Serious question
The general thread for Manga / manga-styled comic-making, manga-style illustration and related comic work. That said, everyone is welcome here.
Support each other and talk about your work or the work of others that excites you. Inking, character design, paneling / layout, writing, planning, and other discussions are all welcome.
Post resources, questions, in-progress pages, breakdowns of other works, etc. If a work is not yours, credit the maker (unless it's fucking obvious like a full page of One Piece or something).
Thanks to everyone for making /mmg/ a level-headed and helpful place. Remember, drawing and making comics and manga are difficult endeavors, and we're all in this struggle together.

Whenever I have the HuionTablet app installed, it disables pressure sensitivity on most if not all drawing programs (like paint.net, krita, and adobe photoshop) for some reason. Yet the pressure sensitivity works in the pressure/stroke test section of the HuionTablet app
Is it because HuionTablet isn't supported on Windows 11? How do I fix this?

>Rules & Guidelines
(1) Any form of cartooning is welcome; so submit and receive feedback from others. (2) Please resize your images before posting. (3) Share your knowledge and (4) Remember to not be afraid of asking for critique. Most importantly, keep discussion at a civil level.

**Strive for quantity AND quality.**
Anime Studying:
>Copy anime references exactly and draw them from memory. Use illustrations, screenshots, anime figures, 3D models, etc.
>Don’t copy recklessly. Use construction, color theory, and other fundamental concepts to rehearse a drawing process that you can later easily manipulate for original artwork.
>Post all of your anime studies. Post even when you’re told not to. Create an art community that actually draws and improves together instead of just talking about it.
>Number your attempts and link to your previous posts.
>Critiquers should lead by example by posting their studies.
General Anime Style Discussion:
>Questions about achieving certain styles/techniques/compositions etc.
>Drawing methods, study habits, resources, tutorials, tools, software, etc
>Be specific and try to post a sample of your study attempts before asking for help.
**Draw copies from good anime styled references to mindfully up our mileage, internalize appealing aesthetics, and learn from each other’s processes and knowledge.**

Please specify the week you're on and if it's dynamic sketching 1 or 2 when posting your work.

Your choice. Honestly, just draw. Use what you have. But if you want, you can get it. You can do it digitally, but try to refrain from using ctrl+z and other features. At the end of the day though, do what you want. As long as you put the work you're gonna see progress.
>I'm /int/ (as if, pyw faggot), should I bother?
If you want to expand your range of subjects, I recommend it. It also covers a lot of fundies that doesn't hurt to revisit. I suggest you start with DS2 though.

Previous Thread:>>7483201 >dont draw porn bro you'll never make it to the big leagues
>meanwhile the literal Bruce Timm while still working with DC comics post your progress over time It's retarded. It's meaningless. It takes no skill. Yet I'm captivated by it. And no artists working today seem to do anything like it.
Is it impossible for me to become a character concept artist?
I really don't wanna give up, but I feel really depressed because I'm not great.
I thought because of people being tolerant and inclusive that maybe I could have a chance despite autism and bad social skills, that maybe I could just learn social skills and the skills needed to be a concept artist since it was a dream job I have
I don't have confidence
I don't really make character sheets, I thought by practicing traditionally that I could get better on digital
I thought if I could study anatomy, and more that it would be easier. But I'm not doing any of those things even I thought I did, I didn't actually care enough to research what it actually means. I'm doing it all wrong. I don't think anything of what I'm doing is related to what's actually required for the job, and I'm a retarded piece of shit. What's funny is that I spent a year and half believing I could do it
I don't have any idea how the world works and I'm a retard especially for a 22 year old. All I can do is be a shitstain who draws crummy things in class How do you feel about your current progress, /ic/?
Why you should not trust youtube shills:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VH1WEYF8rlA
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Twy5Wo8m284
Do not worry pressure levels. 1024 is more than enough.
Remember to ignore all chinese shills. They often post paid twitter promos from random artists. It's all shilling, ignore it.
Recommended tablets:
>Screenless:
Used Intuos 3, 4, 5, Pro, One by Wacom
>Display:
Small (10-11"): Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite
Medium (12-16"): Samsung Galaxy Tab S8/S9 Ultra, used iPad Pro 12.9" Gen 1-5
Large (22"+): Cintiq 22, Cintiq Pro 27
Avoid:
>XP-Pen, Huion, Gaomon and every other Chinese brand making Wacom imitations
Poor build quality, pens with wavy lines, wobbly nibs, broken tilt, issues registering light pressure, terrible customer support, uncalibrated displays. All Chinese brands have the same problems. Check out the webm to understand how bad they are.
Do not be fooled by myths like "Chink companies are just as good as Wacom now" - they've been saying this for over 10 years, nothing has changed.
Chinese companies have also been proven to shill on 4chan. You will see dozens upon dozens of posts in this thread by a chinese schizo shill, who will either be bitching about the OP, gaslighting as a Wacom fan, making pointless spam posts or giving terrible advice (like recommending Huion). Just ignore and report him.
>New iPads
Massively overpriced and overhyped.
>Microsoft Surface Pro
More optimized for palm rejection than good quality drawing. Wobbly lines when drawing slow and straight.
>Cintiq 13-16"
Completely outclassed by the Galaxy Tab Ultra & iPad
>Cintiq Pro 16, 24, 32
Overpriced, QC issues, loud fans, proprietary mount interface
>Lenovo
Worse than Samsung in every way.
Previous: >>7459173 I'm at a point where I want to learn and advance my skillset. But there's one problem: I'm not drawing. I think I have a severe case of fear of failure, and get a sense of anxiety with the canvas and a human reference in front of me.
Then most of the time when I find the willpower to practice I end up just drawing boxes, cylinders, circles and ellipses, to the point I've gotten pretty good at drawing them.
How do you conquer fear? What is the most autistic/retarded thing you've drawn from real life or used as a reference? When I first started out drawing I used a picture of my mom cheating on my dad as a reference for bnha "comic". Post your autistic references/"muses" Have any anons here ever set up a booth at a local art convention?
What is it like and how much did you sell? Art supplies and do mannequins actually work >pieces used to get thousands of faves on pixiv
>now they're lucky to break a couple hundred, despite better quality, more consistent uploads, and having a larger following
I'm baffled. Does pixiv's algorithm shift which artists it suggests or something? Has anybody else had this happen? It used to be the best place for me to post, now my gallery is a deadzone. Are autistic people capable of becoming good artists? Show us your projects, big and small!
A project can be anything including but not limited to:
>a manga/comic
>a short animated film
>piece(s) for an art exhibition
>video game assets
>series of illustrations
Questionnaire:
>What type of project are you working on?
>What inspired you to create this?
>How far are you into your project?
>Any previous projects?
>Any social media?
>Would you like to receive feedback/criticism?
Per usual, don't respond to bait and simply report/ignore anything that isn't conducive to drawing.
Previous Thread: >>7208201 In TC theoretical framework, I just discovered the following relationship: the 'cultivated' thickness of a 'biform' determines its tendency towards radial or linear properties. This is interesting because it supports the hypothesis of the 'indifferent biform' [the 'brotherhood' is predominant within the 'anticipatory margins'].
A biform with minimal 'degrees of freedom' [a circle with hard edges] does not propagate beyond the explicit boundaries of its border. In contrast, a biform with more complex degrees of freedom [a diffuse line] does propagate beyond its limits, increasing the system's entropy. Has anyone done low res pixel art, then used a SNES emulator upscaler filter, then did a quick paintover to fix some issues and bring up the quality?
I found the method is much much cheaper than doing an entire HD work from scratch and the result is not as terrible. Which schoolism courses are actually worth spending time studying?
If you can't recommend any of them, what other courses would you recommend?
I wanna become a great painter Why are you drawing? What is your endgoal? Is it to impress girls with your drawings or to earn money with it? Why do so many social media artists pretend to be Japanese? post blogs, rate, give advice, talk shit, etc

I personally think this is a very underrated drawing game and I'm sick and tired of playing with third-worlders who can't draw for fucking shit. How do I actually force myself to draw? I've been wanting to draw for nearly 2 years now and have barely made any progress towards that goal. I've only done one Loomis face like 2 years ago and haven't done any exercises or line work since then. I've been trying to get myself to draw, but all of it looks too complicated and exhausting for me. I've tried multiple different strategies, but they never seem to work. I've tried forcing myself to draw, but can only make myself draw circles for barely 30 seconds before stopping and looking at my phone again.
I've got a couple of drawing books and a drawing tablet for my PC and barely touched them.
My shaky hands fuck up every drawing I make, and I can barely do lines without fucking them up. I can't use my shoulder, I only feel good using the motions of my fingers.
Can anyone help? Which one is the better artist in terms of draftmanship and overall skill? What makes capeshit art so ugly when compared to manga?

So called art fundamentals as taught in the west are a psyop to keep contemporary western art-styles from evolving
It's a carefully designed hard cap placed on what's allowed to be drawn so it doesn't get too out of line, you always need to maintain a certain level of ugliness and crude application of "fundamentals" to fit in with the system.
literally newspeak from "1984" but in art form, you aren't able to express certain emotions and ideas in western art (those who know, know) because the language itself has been neutered, its development artificially limited and socially engineered so the art-styles never go towards building any substantially complex and subtle systems in any subskill of they're art, be it gesture or line art or painting, this is what's called - low cognitive resolution art.
We could get into socio-cultural aspects of how this subversion plays out too but that might be off topic, but again those who know know. gotta be careful what you say because you know the glowies patrol art communities everywhere as part of their psy-op. Rate my self portrait. Where can I improve? What's /ic/ honest reaction?

You guys must start though, I only draw fur shit how does /ic/ do it? I need one now and haven't had a social media account in over a decade Wait a minute the guy at the bottom is straight up a bridgeman figure isn't he So, if you wanna draw body horror and fleshy monsters, aside from learning realistic human anatomy and twist them with fucked up proportions, would it be good study material to learn from guro porn?
It's fucking gross and I pukes from it, but it's like the most family friendly alternative for learning the texture of flesh and rot that's not actual fucking gore.
Or is there other alternative references that can keep my sanity while letting me draw good rotten flesh and entrails? also known as "Idk what the fuck to draw so I will just scribble" thread

2. Objects, vehicles, creatures etc. that aesthetically fall into the visual space of mecha/robot/artificial/cybernetics etc. regardless of level of realism.

Sure you didn't fall for this meme, right? Recently i noticed that female designs in general do a better job at conveying sexiness than male designs. Female designs can be elegant, cute, tasteful or silly while simultaneously being sexy. Meanwhile male designs that are meant to be sexy come off as desperate ridiculous coombait. How do you integrate sexualisation into a design of a guy? If you could give your past /beg/ self three pieces of advice, what would you tell them? When you're coming up with an OC, can you totally visualize them in your head before you even try to draw them? What's your mental process to coming up with a character? Akira Toriyama's change from trad to digital was one of the saddest declines I've ever seen. What is it about trad that make it soulful?
can the line thickness alone destroy an artstyle?
I've been contemplating switching digital art units from pixels to millimeters just so I can force myself to use realistic pen sizes while also limiting zoom in level. in real life you can't really zoom in to the insane level that you can do in digital, and also it forces you to think about the subject to linewidth ratio, in trad you can't go infinitely thin (unless you're on of those insane micro artists).
Also we need more appreciation to Toriyama's old mechanical designs.
Any thoughts about trying to emulate trad's physical limits while also keeping the quality of life digital art has? >Get hired to do character design for a game
>since every AI model has regurgitated your art 2000 times, everyone is acussing the game of looking like generative ai
OH NONONO Why does everyone think he was a Renaissance artist? I even thought the same thing myself until recently. How to do this shit nigga Shexyo is proof that "making it" is only as hard as your integrity allows it to be. First, this nigga started off as a blatant CSR clone. Then he got outed as a tracer. Now, he straight up traces AI, and he STILL has over 1400 patreons who pay for his AI-traced slop. Art with an emphasis on landscapes, plants, animals, and mythical creatures are welcome!

If there's a point beyond jerking off on canvas I can't find it.
I have great respect for the technicians that can do this well. I certainly cannot. But beyond that, I do not feel anything when I look at photo realistic paintings. Will these things finally help him master the art of drawing anime? I'm trying to describe a fantasy society using only drawings and avoiding writing. I want to know first if it's comprehensible or not. What is the easiest way to make enough money to pay for living expenses, rent, insurance, etc?
I would prefer anything other than Furry Porn.
It seems like animation work from Japan is an up and coming industry. There are SO many foreigners who can't even speak Japanese who are called on for Genga and Key Animation. Is this a good, reliable industry to try to break into?

Previous thread >>7497931 Post swords and other melee weapons that you have drawn, painted, or made. How did he achieve such perfect, beautiful lines in oil? Pic related is 'Tire' from 1962. I'm amazed by the perfection of it. I want to replicate it in my own work (I'm rather obsessed with hard lines) but I just cannot make it work. Did he use something like frisket film? Did he cut templates? There has to be something I'm missing here and searching the Internet has not be fruitful. How many frames should pixel art sprites use for walk cycle animations? I know it happened with design, frutiger aero replaced with simple boring interfaces etc. I'll start: line weight / line control Are proportions just data drawn from reality? Is it that simple?
How comes people can tell something is "out of proportion" but can't tell exactly what the proportions are or draw with correct proportions without learning how to do it first? Is this oil portrait on paper salvageable?
Looking for some critique and advice on where to go from here as I’m new to oil painting. I want it to look like the picture below but feel like my coloring and stroke technique is bad despite having high quality brushes. Sorry if this is a stupid post but any insight would be appreciated Is loomis useful for drawing anime? How detailed do you reckon should concept art be? Especially for character specific conceptual art. I just want to be able to draw cringe art and I don't have very high demands on myself but I'm doing so horribly at keeping up with my exercises so I never get anywhere. What are the best techniques to replicate the look of cel's when drawing digital? anyone taking part? how do i make the most of it?

Pic unrelated "Simple yet characteristic." Do you have to have "a thing" as an artist? Something specific that you're known for, like painting horses or orc chieftains. Is it easier to become successful if you focus on specific subjects?

I want to learn perspective and figure drawing, particularly placing figures in perspective. I have read Loomis and it doesn't really help me. Any recommendations? I want to try using more dynamic poses in my art. "action" poses and stuff that make the character look more animated in the drawing, and leave little open space in the picture.
My main issue is that without a reference, i draw like shit. It's noticably worse when i try to draw from imagination.
So how do i go about this? Do i just search for random pictures until i find one with a pose i want? Is there a book out there with poses like this?
Also looking for any advice in general about drawing better, leaving less open/blank space in the pictures i draw and how to make my stuff not just be solely floating torsos and heads at a 3/4 angle. what Aphantasia level are you /ic/? What's the final verdict on drawabox? Thoughts on watermarks?
Good, bad, annoying, useful? I need good male reference images, preferably young and lean models. remember, you don't need to be extremely skilled to get a following. Don't let some coping crab say otherwise. The skill level you need to be at in order to have a comic worth reading is higher than classical painting. You have to be a genetic freak to make a comic. i feel like messed this up by having too many thin lines but without that on the lower half of the face the body and floor become one form >has a drawing channel
>do countless art jobs
>keep doing that for over 12 years
>still can't draw from imagination
And you're telling me to "just draw"? post nice art
any medium. any style. any subject
