Ok so here is where one of my major problems is; there is no specific thing or subject I want to draw.
My main reason for wanting to learn is storytelling. Comics and/or manga. In order to achieve such goals, there are a large number of things I need to get good at, but I don't feel passion about anything specific. For a lot of people it's enough to just draw characters they like, or appealing drawings in general.
Obviously learning the figure is a no-brainer, but it feels like there is always a mental disconnect between what the instructor is trying to emphasize and my own interpretation. Every time one of them says something like "take note of this beautiful curve coming down" or "notice this wonderful expressive action", it doesn't really register with me. I feel more comfortable logically breaking things down than engaging with my emotions. It's because of this I end up drawing primitives and sometimes still lifes (which i am far better at than the figure).

I've actually pondered trying this. If I try to draw an attractive female figure, it's always demotivating when the result is mutated. Maybe the key is to practice drawing ugly orcs or beavis and butt head.
