They don't romanticize artists. They romanticize having art. Top end treats artists like trained monkies to produce entertainment, the rest see it as a debasing profession that's beneath them no matter how rich or poor they are.

To use the vidya example-
Being an artist gives you a penalty to the your percieved status in the eyes of every single NPC you meet and you need to be exceedingly good at social skills to compensate for this.

A lot of people cope by thinking its jealousy or whatnot but it's really not. Proof is in how the vast majority of people would not want their child's profession to be "artist". They may encourage art as a hobby because it makes someone more interesting, but that's more like how playing piano or volunteering at a soup kitchen is. If you play piano or work at a soup kitchen as a profession it's very very different from having it as a side hobby.

This is very true. A lot of social practices are fucking stupid. EZ example: 90% of a grocery store is garbage that you shouldn't put in your body. It's in most peoples' best interest to take advantage of all the tech and other systems we have to build and find better options to break away from the retardation and go their own path.

It's worse. Some legitimately like it due to their lives being so high strung that being roasted by trained-monkey artists is a "safe" way to unwind, while being roasted by a peer carries layers of threatening subtext. They also use it as a status symbol. The masses reject such fucked up shit, so enjoying it is showing how much you belong to the ultrarich tribe culturally.
