Not all beginners are created equal. Even though we may all start at zero as artists, we still have different ways of processing information. The only way to know if it works for you specifically is to try it. That doesn't mean speed scrolling his book in an image browser. Make a solid attempt to understand, practice, and test the material.
Few people get everything from a single source. You will be an amalgamation of multiple artists, viewpoints, as well as original discoveries of your own. The idea that a book should be everything to you before you trust it means you're likely going to miss out on things that may "click" for you on specific/esoteric aspects of drawing. Build a bag of tricks.

I may be the first person to bring hitokaku's website, as well as 0033/redline guy, to /ic/'s attention. I learned of them through Futaba channel (the image board). We've had long discussions about these artists, and countless image dumps. This was before your time.
Now we're drowning in Asian artbooks and online videos. I don't think any Japanese artist is recommended particularly often except those who are prolifically producing new content on Youtube. This is more a reflection of the landscape than it is about the efficacy of the material, most of which are quite similar in their approach to drawing. That alone should say something to you.

Is hitokaku any good for beginners? I don't see it getting recommended often here, so I'm curious.
