Assuming you could get your long boi grenade to still have a good shrapnel dispersion pattern I could see those actually being useful to cram a bunch in a belt pouch without making your waistline wide as fuck or for things like automatic grenade launchers to give you things like "belt box that holds 20 more grenades per reload in the same width box", (but the box itself is longer and heavier obviously, not a bad tradeoff if it's on a vehicle)
