Lol. The prices on components have risen even more than ammo. Double the price of powder from 5 years ago, triple the price of primers, tools like dies now never go on sale and are all $50 for every caliber for a simple Lee 3-piece kit.
It only makes sense on very expensive, niche calibers now, or if you need something specific that isn't readily available from ammo manufacturers (M2 loads for my garand is the big one for me).
You genuinely used to be able to reload 9mm for (barely) cheaper when it was sub-20¢/rnd. Now, I can't even get close. I'm only saving 10¢/rnd on my 45ACP loads, and that's breaking down the brass cost 5 times (the normal amount of reloads I get out starline before significant neck cracks), using the fastest powder I can get (titegroup) to use the least amount of powder, using lighter (200gr) and cheap copper coated projectiles from Berry's, still only loaded to standard velocities (800fps), and using cheap Indonesian primers (2¢ less per primer than American or Italian made primers). It doesn't make any sense to do that to save barely any money, but I do it because I enjoy it. The only calibers I save significant money on are 7.62 Tok, 6.5 Carcano (of which I had to spend $110 on a made to order single bullet mold to cast properly sized projectiles), 8mm and 7mm Mauser, and 6.5 Grendel (for my dad and brother, as I don't even have an AR in that caliber).
Reloading in 2025 is a total scam.
