Many pupils simply don't have enough reading done. To master something to your full potential you need to do is thousands times. Athletes trainers very well understand it "give me 200 from three point line today boy" and boy does today and next day and acculmates tend if thousands such throws. And this process is the same for smart and dumb, gifted and mediocre.
It's implied that school pupil read thousand pages before their graduation and they get their proper amount of reading training. Smart people do. Dumber people don't and they fall behind curve very fast. Textbooks are small they can't provide enough training themselves. There are reading lists of books and pupils supposed to read them but they don't, especially today with attention span destroyed. You give reading books as home work assignment, forget it dumb people never read them. Because they are both lazy and struggle to read. Smart boys read, they read like 10 times faster and they read enough it's not hard for them. Dumb don't, you try to stimulate their by tests and grading , they read 1 page summaries of 300 pages books for pass tests. Today they ask chat GPT.
In today TikTok wolrd schools need literally reading classes when pupils just read books for hours (with quck knowledge test after to assure they read) to hone their reading skills and train attention span.
But education doesn't
They handle out make belive grades to pupils falling behind (no child left behind blhah blah) And jump to advanced studies these pupils can't study because they simply can't read good and fast enough.
