Yeah, they are sold for 3500€ used here, when you can even find one. Would the American public that has been coddled with $300 AR15s be willing to pay more than $1k for a rifle? Of course not. Maybe a handful of collectors would, how many, a few hundreds? Not to mention the 550 would have gotten the usual criticisms : it's not an AR, it doesn't take AR magazines, it doesn't have an AR trigger, an AR barrel, an AR bolt, an AR stock, pistol grip, handguard, and so on, and so on.
So they made a special version for the US, with an AR stock and an AR15 like lower, as well as much heckin four railed handguard that was all the rage back then, and it was still an utter failure, because it wasn't a fucking AR, because it was too expensive (anything pricier than $300 being unnaceptable for the average American gun owner), so they made a version that was closer to the original, then 10 different other versions, and they were all abysimal commercial failures.
I hate the American consumer so much it's unreal.
