Ironically, the "pretty" sanded examples are the cheaper ones since many rifles have been victim to Bubba's sandpaper. The 45 dated examples from Walther get exceptionally rough with visible chatter on stocks. As for looking for a shooter, avoid anything where the receiver looks like pic related. as that's damage beyond most people's ability to repair.

This is true in that they were not over-gassed like the G/K43s are and don't beat themselves to death as a result. The problem is that they're a lot harder to find as not as many were made (~110,000 iirc) vs 400,000+ G/K43s. They're also a lot more expensive as well, $2.5-$3.5k gets you a project gun that's missing pieces. A lot of the G41s went to the Ostfront and never returned which drives up the scarcity of 41s in the US today.

If you plan on spending $3k or more on a semi auto, you have the money to shoot non-corrosive ammo through it. The G/K43 is easy to clean, since all you have to do is pull off the handguard to get to the gas system. The G41 is a bit more messy and convoluted since it's a Bang system but it's not exceptionally difficult.

Hakims are a good option for an entry 8mm semi auto, Egyptian FN49s are also another good one to get as an 8mm blaster and will be much cheaper than any German semi auto.

I don't have any originals, just been loading to what fits my Type 14. I'm still doing some load development, recently tried 4.2gr of 231 which mostly functioned fine. What loads are you using with yours?
