This is the case for most of soviet tech and weaponry, such as the Mig-23, which literally fucked itself if you've shot its cannon, from disabling parts and systems of the plane (including those which were out of reach by the pilot) from vibration to generally breaking the airframe from gun fire.

Partially this was doctrinal "scientific approach to war" retardedness, as in "hurr-durr, we've calculated that on average tank / ifv / jet / whatever lives on the battlefield for 15 minutes, thus investing in comfort / ease of use / ease of maintenance / real world usability / reliability / time between overhauls / etc doesn't make sense, we should just have more of it". No, I'm not joking. Like at least 50% of soviet and russian degeneracy is this pencil pusher approach to war.

Partially it's just shitty engineering and industrial capacity of the soviet union, tied to significant levels of autarky doused in lack of market economy:
- when you try to make more or less everything in house, you can't make everything good;
- when your local manufacturers don't have the freedom to choose other vendors, they take what they can get;
- when your stuff is taken no matter how shit it is, you produce shit;
- etc, etc, etc;

So, yeah, the second portion is that they couldn't make good stuff even if they've tried, because the components were bad, the tools were bad, the workforce was bad, etc. Why was T-72 invented? Because retards at UVZ couldn't produce the more fancy T-64s and T-80s which Kharkiv and Leningrad tank plants could make.

And that's even before you go into the whole "retarded bureaucrats making decisions in things which they have no idea of, because of politics / retarded ideas / nepotism / wanting a shortcut / not trusting your own people / etc".
